Great announcements!! The hAP ac products look great (esp. the price of the ac lite), and RouterOS going to multicore ARM is quite the surprise.

I don't suppose you have an answer for this already, but...I know you guys are working on new virtualization solutions (versions of MetaROUTER or a replacement for MetaROUTER that supports multicore). Have you been working to make sure that this new solution is also supported on ARM routers as well?

They can use LXC+Network Namespaces which will work on all architectures, or KVM which will work on most of them. It will be interesting to see what direction they take.

Network Namespaces is an integral feature of RouterOS v7 so maybe it will be that... but I have no idea :)

I am aware that there are many different options available to them, but I am more interested in answers than speculation. ;)

LXC is an interesting idea but would not give the same kind of flexibility that a full hypervisor like MetaROUTER does. For example, being able to build your own kernel and including features or kernel modules that MikroTik may not have built for their own kernel. Also, being able to boot up non-Linux guests...for example, this project (described here). (I also know that there have been successful efforts made to bring FreeBSD over to MIPSBE and PowerPC RouterBoards, and porting over MetaROUTER guest support to that might be fairly straightforward.)

...uhm, do my eyes deceive me or does the hAP ac lite have a USB port on it, while the hAP ac non-lite has NO USB port?

That doesn't even make sense to me...

-- Nathan

EDIT: On second thought, is it possible that MT just Photoshopped the hAP ac sticker on the back of an RB260GS case, and that's why the USB port hole is covered?

having no USB on hAP ac but having it on lite version is in fact a bit strange ... no pricetag in PDF on hAP ac, just hAP ac lite ...

They haven't announced the price of the non-lite one, so what that says to me is that if leaving off USB is about potential cost-saving, then because they haven't announced the price yet, it's not too late for MikroTik to re-think this, add the USB feature on, and raise the price they are thinking about listing it for by $5-10. :) I think it would be worth it.

stupid question about the HAP AC: is a USB 3.0 or 2.0? I assume 3.0 saw the blue color of the door. Power and dBi antenna? Good idea to keep the form factor anyway! Congratulations on the new products! :D

Nice Home-AP-Series! Especially to have the two WiFi-Bands instead of selling different devices for each 2.4 or 5GHz.
But the the icing on the cake would have been to support 802.3af-PoE for professional infrastuctures... :?

It doesn't look professional to provide 802.3af-compliant network switches (for phones and webcams) and to connect every single WiFi-AP on one dumb PoE-Injector over only 100Mbit/s...

Ok. But Why should a waste place and PDU-Ports with Power Adapters, if I have already a PoE-providing switch for all other network devices!!?

As I said before: Nice products for little business or home. But not very professional. ;-)

I understand, but hAP are "home AP" units. 802.3af power would increase the cost of the devices. We have such devices planned as well.

What are the differents between the 2011 and 3011 version?

RB3011UiAS-RM: $179

3011 is 2x faster than 2011 because it uses new ARM processor.
3011 also has miniPCIe instead of built in card
3011 has full size USB3 port

Does the 3011 series also include dual band 5Ghz by default or do we need to buy/switch miniPCIe cards ourselves?

As the specs of the 2011 are quite similair to the CRS125 series, are there plans to upgrade the CRS125 series as well with the new ARM processor?

A 3011 or CRS125v2 with dual band 2.4/5Ghz, 10Gbit/SFP+ support and 802.3af ports would be all we ever need ;)

Any specs for the RIIe-5HacT? How much dBm? I see no "P" so 27dBm?
Will we see some RIIe-5HPacD units coming? We really were waiting for 30dBm... This way we can still use rb800 boards with high power cards..
Or any R52HPac miniPCI cards? (Or R5HPac).We have still plenty rb411/433 form-factor stations that need upgrading to new ac platform with preferable high power radio cards too....
I am missing any upgrades on the miniPCI cards anyway. There must be thousands so not millions of the 'an' miniPCI cards in the fields that could do with a simple upgrade in both power and protocol. Would be a BIG moneymaker for MT!

Is there already anyone that can tell a bit more info on the DynaDish 5?

Looks like a very interesting device, but many questions;
- What form-factor board inside or specially made for this antenna?
- What radio inside? dBm?
- Is the board/radio housing metal?
- The dish looks plastic, is it or is is metal?
- Size? Dish diameter?

Depending on size and price this could be the perfect future CPE device in high spectrum usage environments.

But from the first looks I already love it! Like the new QRT!

[By the way, this would finally gives us a nice comparison project between Microprint based QRT and parabole dish antenna. Finally we can learn what is really the best! :D )

Is too expensive, more than ubnt and 23dbi vs 27dbm antenna. At least power is higher.

How do you know its too expensive? Prices mentioned in the MT pdf usually are no more than a very rough estimation abt the real prices, which are usually much lower...
But you are right, to gain back some market share they should be in the same price class as ubnt's antennas with the same or similar caracteristicas...

So let's what more info we will get on these...

And another issue; Do they really come and when? Some promised devices never hit the market and some others took many months to finally see the world...

In fact in my country price is higher than the ones recommended by Mikrotik. I think price anounnced are whithout VAT because of different values in every country. So in my country is Mikrotik price + 24% + a little more.

Will these make it into a CRS109 design device?

We prefer the CRS109 for deployment as CPE to business clients as the CRS series looks more professional.

The 3011 series has hardware ipsec ?
Can anyone confirm this? I've been waiting for a cheaper model with H/W IPSEC support for what feels like years. I was hoping the 850x2 would deliver, but it didn't happen.

I remember that post. It was made almost a year ago. Not only can a lot change in that kind of time, I have reason to believe that things have changed during that time. Also, at that time, the way that JanisK phrased that post, it sounds like they were still weighing their options and had not so much as written a line of code.

RB3011 is cool upgrade for 2011 (esp all gigabit and full-size USB), but why not go for dual-band AC wi-fi as well.
Maybe not in all versions, but at least as a top one?
With such it can be an outstanding home/soho router, without - just very nice one. :)
P.S. It is somewhat strange to have dual-band AC in hAP, but not in 3011.

Well actually, to me there is no real reason currently to upgrade from 2011 to 3011. Only in the most exceptional circumstances my 2011/951's are hitting a cpu bottleneck.

I would pay up to EUR 300 for a device with the specs I mentioned previously (SFP+, dual band & PoE), preferably as an upgrade of the CRS125 to have a bit more ethernet ports. Then you would have one device that rules your entire Home Office: 5Ghz wifi to have a more stable connection in spaces with a lot of wifi networks, 10Gbit storage network to connect vm host servers to the storage server and PoE ports for voip phones 8)

Switches mikrotik without igms snooping and DHCP snooping is cheap toys !
Why these toys you produce?
+1 for DHCP snooping and IGMP snooping. These are the #1 blocking issues preventing us from deploying MT more widely.

Re: MUM Europe 2015 (live video)

Great news about the dual band HAP series. Been waiting a long time to have something like that in a SOHO form factor. Also very interested in the 3011 series. There are many times when we design something and want to use a 2011 instead of a CCR for cost, but end up going with a CCR because the bandwidth requirements are just beyond a 2011.

The 3011 will make an exceptional MPLS CE router in a rack mount form if we can deliver a gig with lower CPU loading than the 2011..

maybe better sell RB3011 with empty miniPCIe slot ? and let people put in 2.4 or dual-band mikrotik adapter?
In other thread people say, that RB3011 will not be able to operate as dual-band with it's current one miniPCI slot. I have no qualification to confirm or deny this, but if "one card = one band" equation is true, than dual-band variant is not going to be possible for RB3011. Which is not good from my POV.

You can already use Winbox for Mac, using Wine Bottler. This is also the same that you saw in the picture.

This is true. There are no simultaneous dual band miniPCI-e cards.
I can repeat once more, the only dual-band product announced was the hAP

The USB in HAP AC is 3.0 or 2.0 :)

will be more faster than USB in 951g for Samba and FTP sharing

Nice new products, well done! (especially the 3011 and the hap/hap-ac).

One wish from my side: optimize the idle power and maximum power usage as low as possible, this is more and more a real topic. Take some cent more than usual to use more energy efficient components (if not already done). Just a wish for 24/365 usage.

Btw, CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+PC is very nice with passive cooling. Would be nice to see the case providing two options of display placement. So one can decide to have the display on the front or on the top (e.g. two openings with one blind plate).

Best wishes

These all are missing features, that have never been supported by any of the ever released versions of RouterOS / Mikrotik devices, and have nothing to do with stability. Latest v6 releases are already quite stable. If you think they are not, please share which declared and/or documented feature is not working for you.

Well, to be fair, in the context of feature requests, it makes sense to ask for new features. You generally don't request a feature that already exists. :)

My perception is that MT's biggest ongoing challenge is effectively communicating a roadmap of features, and providing meaningful feedback on requested feature development. Communication is really, really hard, but it's something I would like to see continue to improve as MT continues to grow.

I don't mind being told "DHCP snooping is something we have roadmapped for ROS7.5", or "We haven't considered that feature and it isn't on our roadmap at the moment, but I will discuss it with the team", or "Unfortunately, the hardware platform/user demand doesn't appear to support what you're asking for". That feedback gives me actionable options: I either know that MT will someday do what I need, will never do what I need, or will someday do what I need if I champion my feature to the userbase and get enough people to ask for it (or buy enough MT equipment myself). I just want to be told... something. :)

Switches mikrotik without igms snooping and DHCP snooping is cheap toys !
Why these toys you produce?
That's a bit unfair to call it a toy just because it doesn't have two features you need. We use MikroTIk routers all over the world for our clients and they do a great job. Sometimes there are bugs, but I've submitted more Cisco bugs in the last 12 months than MikroTik by a factor of 4 to 1, so it affects all network vendors.

Request the features you want and if there is enough demand, it will eventually make it on the roadmap.

These features people wait from mikrotik many years, and they can't answer simple question - wait these features or not. v6 actually unstable, in each version they fix some problems, but add others, and i have no time to be a betta tester.

These features people wait from mikrotik many years
Two out of three features you've mentioned - IGMP snooping and DHCP snooping - are only applicable to switches, and the first CRS device ever was first announced in the Fall 2013, i.e. only 1,5 years ago (I can point you to a relevant newsletter, if you cannot find it yourself). And the first real hardware became available to customers even later. Roughly 1 year is not that "many year".

As to the third missing feature - OpenVPN over UDP - there was clear answer from Mikrotik that this is very likely to just never happen. Stop asking and look for another solution if you really need this.

There will always be some bugs fixed in each version of RouterOS, simply because there's no such thing as a bug-free software in the world. I agree that v6 was awful in its early days, but several latest version are quite stable. You can get an opposite impression by just reading this forum, but that's just an impression. All my RBs are running 6.27 without a single issue now. Simply look through the 6.27 topic on the forum- you'll see that a lot of problems in v6 that people kept complaining about for months turned to be configuration issues, rather then bugs in software. There are problems with incomplete documentation, incomplete release notes, undocumented/unnoticed changes in the configuration syntax, but the latest version of RouterOS itself is stable for me. Your mileage may vary, and if it is just write to support, chances are that will turn into another configuration issue.

You live in another world if 1,5 not many years. And igmp snooping needed not only in switches.

Where?! I can't see clear answer from mikrotik. And i ask not you, if you don't need thees fetaures, don't read messages.

It don't mean that is stable for all, just in you configuration all ok.

And i want see official answer from mikrotik, not from you.

IGMP snooping is only for switches. Well, it can also be used with bridges, but I don't see how/when that can be useful. On routers one should use IGMP proxy for similar purposes, which has been present in RouterOS for ages now.

Where?! I can't see clear answer from mikrotik.
Here, for instance. I'm sure I can find some more recent answers as well.

This is a user forum. If you need an official answer from Mikrotik, write to support@. This has been emphasized lots of times in various topics here.

IGMP Snooping and DHCP snooping do indeed apply to switches ; Mikrotik has had switch chips in their products for a long time. IGMP proxy work is done in the CPU, rather than in the switch-chip, which means that in a high traffic multicast environment (say IPTV on a FTTH network, like we operate), the switch chip can't actually help out. This sucks; it puts a lot of extra load on the device, when this is really something that should be happening 'in silicon'.

The switch chips in mikrotik switches have sufficient filtering functionality that it's possible to filter specific multicast streams manually, and the 'redirect to CPU' functionality should make it possible to get the CPU to see add/joins. So in my mind, there appears to be hardware support for CPU defined switch-chip filtering, which is sufficient to accomplish IGMP snooping.

Same thing with DHCP; redirect DHCP traffic to CPU for analysis, it goes through a short code stack, and if it passes, it goes back onto the switch. This is a great feature to have to trace DHCP leases down through a switched network, but the real upside is nerfing rogue DHCP servers (ie customer router connected backwards).

There are probably good reasons these features haven't been implemented, and I don't have my pitchforks out, I'm just calmly advocating for features that would make the product much more valuable for my use case (FTTH w/ IPTV).

I gotta tip my hat to the MTK boys for listening to the community on what they want.
Little bit disappointed that that 3011 cannot be made dual band as I have some use cases where I need 5+ devices and WLAN but not a total deal breaker.

As a long time MT user (first board purchased in 2003 I believe) and a regular upgrader I can fully underwrite andriys comment on the RouterOS. Every ROS family release seems to reach its maturing age around versions .20 or higher.
With v6. we are now at 6.27 and I have it installed on several hundreds of all kinds of routers and I must say this is a very stable version. I have to go back to the days of v3.2+'s to remember myself similar stability. Offcourse v6.27 of today carries much more options and abilities.

And indeed, if even the world biggest programmers club (Microsoft) needs almost weekly updates on their software platform to fight submerging bugs I think MT is not doing such a bad job at all...... after all, the IT department of MS for just a small part of their software palette is probably already bigger than the whole of the employee staff of MT in total..

In nowadays over-computerized world everybody that deals with IT knows that EVERY software platform comes with bugs. Even live threatening or probably disastrous systems like modern planes, nuclear power stations and defense communications centers come with bug invested software systems. Usually these systems see a bit more time, energy and money thrown at to fight them than MT would ever be able to afford....

P.S. It is somewhat strange to have dual-band AC in hAP, but not in 3011.
What is worse it is still lacking ability to use two separate radios...
The hAP AC models have the wifi chips soldered on the board but no mini-PCIe. The RB3011 has no on-board wifi but has a mini-PCIe slot. In this particular case with the RB3011, MikroTik chose modularity and future expandability over and above cramming as many possible features into a single box as possible, which is, I think, for a product of this class, a perfectly valid compromise to make. In the future, I don't doubt that there will be RB3011-class products that either come fitted with dual-band radios or that support having dual-band modules added to them. For now, though, you have to make a choice: multi-band but no modularity, or modularity but only one band.

Remember that the base RB3011 is more than twice as expensive as the hAP AC Lite...it is not being marketed as a home/SOHO router like the hAP line. If you absolutely need the performance of the RB3011 AND both bands, then buy 2 of them and fit one with a 2GHz card and the other with a 5GHz card. Or buy an RB3011 with no wireless, and then buy an hAP AC Lite, and use your RB3011 for routing and configure your hAP AC Lite to just be a dumb bridge (you can still configure the wireless parameters of the hAP from the 3011 by using CAPsMAN, so everything can still be controlled all from one device).

If dual-band is all you really care about, then why fret over the RB3011? Just buy an hAP AC and be happy. :)
...and PoE ports for voip phones 8)
To my knowledge, no RouterBoard with PoE out supports true, active 48V 802.3af/3at PoE, and almost every desktop ethernet VoIP phone *requires* active 48V PoE. There is no RouterBoard on the market that I am aware of that can power a PoE VoIP phone.
