Need to script a hotspot restart the least intrusive way

Wed Apr 22, 2015 5:32 am

Subject is not very clear but here is the problem I am facing.

I have a hotspot setup and working well with radius and MAC authentication. Only problem is that changes to MAC authentication in the radius server seem to require a hotspot restart on the mikrotik router for it to take effect.

This doesn't seem to be a problem with normal radius users, only MAC auth.

As a fix for this I thought I could just script a restart of the hotspot server every 5 minutes, however I don't really want to do that if I can help it as it could possibly cause some problems for people trying to sign up etc.

Can anyone help me in suggesting what part of the hotspot server restart might be fixing my MAC auth problem and how I could script just that part to restart only.

If the problem is that an existing device's MAC address is added, then the way to deal with that is to simply remove the preexisting host (from "/ip hotspot host") after registration, thus forcing the device to make a new connection with the hotspot, where it will authenticate via its MAC.

A restart also works, because the host list is cleared on reboot.

Don't think it is that, it happens with MAC addresses never used before.
