How many NIC does MikroTik 2.9.29 support?

Wed Sep 06, 2006 10:34 am

I am running a SBC. I have a 12 PCI slot backplane. I had installed 10 standalone PCI network cards. Total network cards I have is 11 in the system.

So, how many NIC can MikroTik 2.9.29 support?

The MikroTik can see only 10 nics... why?

Hello,

Thanks, your inform. i never read at manual about 'How many NIC'. but with Mikrotik you can make many interfaces. i has tree of my divices with one interface than make them with many interfaces as needed..!. That's mikrotik features, i like it..friendly.

Greetings rootlinux,

Myself I have only put up to 6 single port nics or four 4 port nics, plus a couple singles without any problems. You have to watch though how many nics you put, it's not really a mikrotik limitation, it's a pci bus limitation. Also, there are also only so many IRQ's in systems, depending on how the system allocates them out, too much sharing is not usually a good idea. How much bandwith between all the nics do you expect? If it's all low bandwidth you should be fine, but if you will be routing alot of data, don't expect to get high numbers, in a single pci bus there is only 133MB/s of bandwith, if you devide that up between many cards, or thow in gigabit cards there is just not enough bandwith in a standard PCI bus to handle all the traffic. How many eithernet interfaces do you need and at what speeds?
