<pppoe-joe>: terminating...- user joe is already activ

I keep getting this entry in the log, but when I go to interfaces they are not logged in! If i reboot the mt someone else pops up that way. If I keep rebooting it, up to six times, they go away and it works great? I have had this problem since (around 2.9.23) know it is 2.9.29, same thing!
Anyone have any ideas?

Depending on the timeout settings in your PPPoE profile and the timeout of the client devices this can happen.

I have seen this once or twice and i tracked it down to this:

Client connection to tower dropped for a short period, the CPE lost PPPoE connection but beucase the client came back up before the PPPoE server timeout setting, the server considered them connected but the CPE was not connected.

This only happened when I was using PPPoE on the clients computer/router (ie. dlink) and not at the CPE, once I moved the PPPoE connections to the CPE these just about dissappeared. Also disabling idle timeout on the server also will help with this issue.

I think what you are saying is that the cpe is not connected but the mt shows it is (in this case you can go to interfaces, log them off manually and they come back up ok)

normally the mt can see that they are already logged in and it automatically logs them off (this is not the case)

In my case they are not logged in anywhere, the pppoe server just acts like they are

the only way i know how to (unconfuse) the mt is to reboot it
