EoIP for IPTV with STB at remote location

Fri Jun 19, 2015 11:25 pm

I have two Mikrotik routers. One at home and one at other location. Both have static IP address assigned by my ISP. At remote location I do not have IPTV subscription. Only at primary location. I wish to use my home STB at remote location.

I have setup EoIP tunnel between the two Mikrotik devices and set static IP for both EoIP interfaces (10.10.10.1 at primary and 10.10.10.2 or other side). I can ping them both between each other.

On remote location I have created a bridge and put the EoIP tunnel to it and also eth5 on to which I wish to connect the STB. But all this is not working. The STB doesn't act as if it was as same primary location.

What is the proper way to setup what I wish to do.

Hi,
Export your current config (from both ends), post them here and I'll take a look.

This setup also works great with UPnP/DNLA across remote links once you get it going, provided you have sufficient Upload capacity at the source.

I have already figured it out with a help from a friend. I use PPTP to connect to other MikroTik and then over this EoIP is working. And it works great. I didn't know this works with UPnP/DLNA also. I will try it out.

Pop a Kodi (Formerly XBMC) box somewhere with loads of content on it (all scraped with TheMovieDB or TVDB etc etc) , enable upnp then get remote MT boxes setup same as you have just done and they will see the remote Kodi server (once you add it as a UPnp source) and be able to stream content from it. Works great if you have a nice media collection at home along with a decent connection both ends. Good reason to have a spare MT box to take around with you.

Lots of different possibilities once you realise its just like hooking stuff up on your home network.
