This could be done in terminal:Only thing I am asking for is the ability to specify a name for the backup file in Winbox. This can also be accomplished by providing a file rename capabiliy in the File Folder.
/system backup save name=<File name goes here>
.. but request was for WinboxThis could be done in terminal:
You should not open near people you don't trust... it's a server not an spreadsheet.. and if the admin can't see the passwords it's not an admin...Another issue: passwords should not be revealed in winbox. It is very annying when i open dialog with passwords shown and someone is near me.
I am not used to an idea that passwords are readable so I have no habbit not to open such dialog with third party presence, and it is quite strange if I have to ask others to leave the room because I have to open that dialog.
Simply hide passwords behind astersks, as it is common in whole software world.
World is full of strange people. I do nto have a need to get better opinion on mywelf by using MT but to use it to do the job, and it is quite comon that I have to access MT wrom variousplaces, which I cannot controll. That is why passwords are used for: to allow person to access something from anywhere, but keep access secured. You should not open near people you don't trust... it's a server not an spreadsheet.. and if the admin can't see the passwords it's not an admin...
sorry i really misunderstood that!My first reaction was but then i realized that it must be you just misunderstood what I was talking about.just use radius for that , so u and none will see the users password
Thanks guys this is realy nice.although no other operating system hides the ppp secrets of users (because an admin often has to tell users their ppp passwords), we will make a button in winbox that hides the passwords when not needed.
It's called "read" access for a reasonThanks guys this is realy nice.although no other operating system hides the ppp secrets of users (because an admin often has to tell users their ppp passwords), we will make a button in winbox that hides the passwords when not needed.
Is there a possibility that you guys can make it that users with read access on the routerboard can only see the asterisks and no passwords.
We have users (= dumb) with read access to gain knowledge, but we would like to keep passwords like ppptp passwords secret with or without the Hide Password tick boxyou could actually store your users on a radius server, then you won't have such problems. In what situations would such dumb mode be useful? Why do you allow untrusted people to access your router?
