UPS Problem With USB Monitoring [RB750UP / APC Back-UPS ES 750]

Sat Jul 25, 2015 11:16 pm

I'm experimenting with the UPS monitoring capability of RouterOS. I'm using an RB750UP connected to an APC Back-UPS ES 750 with the provided USB adapter cord. A simulated power outage (disconnecting power from the UPS) results in the RB750UP constantly restarting.

When the USB cord is not connected, however, everything works fine when simulating a power outage. The RB750UP is being powered by the included power supply. I also tried a power supply from an RB750.

Is there a way to connect the USB monitoring without this sort of problem? Is this a problem that only affects the RB750UP? [Eventually, I'd like to use an RB2011UiAS-RM.]

Thanks, Chris

I found my problem with the RB750UP. I was configuring settings min-runtime=0 and offline-time=0 as stated in the wiki here:

http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:System/UPS

BUT, instead of keeping the device on as long as possible as described, it sets it to restart 0 seconds after the UPS loses power. The min-runtime should actually be set to "never" to keep the system running as long as possible.

I did receive my RB2011UiAS-RM and tried it with the system. I realize that unit usually needs to be power-cycled before it will recognize USB devices, and did so prior to each test.

I was able to get the RB2011UiAS-RM to talk to a CyberPower CP600LCD. I could not, however, get it to acknowledge the APC Back-UPS ES 750. It would simply not provide a USB option when adding a new UPS.

I am using the standard APC USB adapter cord connected to the provided Mikrotik USB adapter cord. The Back-UPS would talk to the RB750UP just fine, so I know it is not the UPS. Any thoughts?

Try using an USB hub between RB2011 and APC Back-UPS ES 750 to make it work.

Try using an USB hub between RB2011 and APC Back-UPS ES 750 to make it work.
An un-powered USB hub did allow communication with the ES 750. I may try a combination OTG / Hub adapter in the future when I install the ES 750.

I just got my APC Back-UPS 550 that I plan to actually deploy with the RB2011. It connected just fine without the hub.
