motorola canopy

Sat Nov 06, 2004 1:25 am

I am having some problems with motorola canopy APs... I received what the solution might be.. but... I can't find that parameter in mikrotik... this is what I received as an answer...

Unfortunately we cannot support third party equipment. The issue we are
dealing with is the Bridge Entry Timeout in our equipment and the ARP Cache Timeout is coinciding at some point in thier cycles and the equipment is losing its knowlege of paths. You need to determine what the ARP Cache Timeout is in your router.

thanks

I am using Canopy and Mikrotik without major issues, although I understand that there is a DHCP problem that is fixed with the latest MT firmware release. I do occasionally have problems with clients (mostly using Microsoft cable/DSL routers) obtaining IP address via DHCP but not sure if this is related. As for your problem, most of my Canopy have the bridge entry timeout set to 1440 minutes, only because somebody told me it was a good idea, but I have some at the default value of 25 minutes and have not had problems with the APs timing out.

Great you are not having problems.... I really don't know what is going on.... I changed all the cables.. I had to put iBoots on all the clusters so I can reboot them when there is no response.... I will try to change the bridge timeout to 1440...... what type of IPs (public or private) do you assign with the mikrotik DHCP server?? do you use the mikrotil to shape bandwidth? thanks

We DHCP private addresses with the MT and do some bandwidth shaping, but not for all clients.

Based on problems I've heard others are having with 2.8.18 I've personally been reluctant to upgrade. I did find out the hard way today that if you have ARP enabled on your interface, and also select "add ARP for leases" to the DHCP server, it will work for several hours, and then the clients will start having unusual problems one by one. This is such an easy mistake to make I'm surprised there is no mention of it in the manual, especially considering the consequnces. Have you looked for this Raymundo?
