Basic Queue Config

Tue Oct 20, 2015 11:46 am

Hi guys,

Bit of a n00b queue question for you...

Here is my setup:

ether1 - WAN (bridge mode to ADSL modem)
ether2 - PC
ether3 - switch in my lounge (media center, Xbox etc)
ether4 - <empty>
ether5 - VOIP Phone

During the day I need my VOIP phone on ether5 to take priority at all times. I'm often downloading or doing other bandwidth intensive work and this can affect call quality.

However, the VOIP phone is only active during office hours after which time it is powered off.

I'd just like to know what the simplest and most effective Queue scenario is for me, so that my VOIP phone always has priority, even if the line is heavily utilized. I also want to ensure that the phone being off (link down) doesn't affect the queue and that my PC or switch then gets next priority.

Do I use interface queues or queue tree, and how would you configure this?

It would be a bonus if I could use "simple queue" style bandwidth limiting in conjunction with the above (to stop the wife hogging the line during the day!)

Thanks in advance
WB
