I THOUGHT IT WA FREE BUT I SEE NOW

About Google Maps API
The Maps API is a free service, available for any web site that is free to consumers. Please see the terms of service for more information.
Businesses that charge fees for access, track assets or build internal applications must use Google Maps API Premier, which provides enhanced features, technical support and a service-level agreement.

What if we (the users) were required to get the api key, as opposed to you guys having one for the whole product? I don't know if that helps with the legal front or not.

Great point Vaelen, as this is how another Company "Tropos" do the google maps overlay on their Tropos Control....
I just apply for the key from Google and enter that into the server .....to easy ? or not ?

Another place for mapping info is the openstreetmap, it has less restrictive licensing issues so using it may be a possibility.

make it open source or open source module based.

It has huge potential that software even though its freeware. So many cool things can be done with it.

like user login to dude = to the user login used for winbox \ [always been an issue when you create the map with a poweruser and someone else monitors it with read only they still have access to all the routers.

let it act as a gateway for winbox so that if you remote to it you can still access all your devices.

separate user can be for read only to get port information.

Mikrotik can build further on the Identity setting on the router to include GPS location that can easily be used to auto plot on any mapping system.

It can be used as a device link planner to show LOS and link potential if they integrate into a mapping system for topology.

another great add to it would be the illusive BGP map/looking glass that no one has done effort into making nicely (additional/alternative view to dependencies).

Integrate it with an provisioning module to further help with capsman.

Integrate with radius to further help with winbox username allocation/PPP username allocation.

well anyone that's used it knows how powerful it is (and dangerous with the probes going crazy)

Anyway, I think its powerful as it is as well, for something thats had no updates for 5 years, was fraking well done.

How does UBNT's AirControl have built in maps?
AS a user I add my google free map API into the controller and that's it very easy to use on ubiquity and unifi controllers

The only answer is to create your own solution. I've learned that relying on a manufacturer's ability to maintain and upkeep a management service is almost always an exercise in futility. This is by no means unique to Mikrotik, Ubiquiti is quite the culprit as well.

Especially when you have networks you need to monitor that have a wide variety of different service types and hardware.

My ecosystem is mostly Mikrotik Routers and Switches, Ubiquity backhauls, and Unifi access points and various other on-prem and cloud infrastructure.

That's three separate management software sets. The Dude, Ubiquiti UNMS, and Ubiquiti Unifi....

No one piece of software will meet the needs of all three systems combined.

But for the most part, all the hardware complies with defined standards, and so a custom management interface can be created on a dedicated cloud VM, Nginx, PHP, various VPN connections.

The Dude lacks the features I need, UNMS lacks the features I need, Unifi lacks the features I need...

The only option is to create the features you need yourself.
