CCR1009 dropping or unordering UDP packets with high load

Fri Mar 04, 2016 11:46 am

Hi,

I have just fixed one weird problem with the CCRs which was dropping packets or disordering them from input to output.

The CCR 1009 is running latest stable (bug fix version 6.32.4) and it is just routing between two subnets. It is used for feeding an IPTV headend and it is moving > 300 Mbps and 70-80kpps.

I noticed pixelation on the channels, specially on those with H264 and HD (due to bitrate I wonder). After much investigation and testing (links, wires, etc..) the fault is the CCR which is dropping or reordering the packets (because I monitorized the IPTV flow and player complains that "received" next frame before "previous" frame). If I reduce the traffic the problem gets fixed.

It happens specially on mid size packets (758 bytes) while using full length packets (1316) works better.

The CCR is just routing (no nat) two subnets. This router also have some bridges, bridge rules and some EoIP tunnels but main traffic is plain routed between two subnets.

Is this a known issue? How can I fix this?

Thanks
Antonio

Have you tried putting the stream in a queue, (one of the fifo queues) and then tune the queue size ...
I think the multi processor setup of the ccr1009 can cause the reordering, a queue could fix this.

Hi

I tried changing the interface queue type from "only hardware queue" to "default fifo" without success. Is this correct? Is there another way to do this?

Thanks

What is the CPU load when this is happening? Have you opened a ticket with support?

Hi the CPUs are loaded may be 50-70% (all CPUs)

I have not opened a ticket right now
