GPON ONU module issue

Thu Jan 14, 2016 5:48 pm

Hello,

I have recently purchased a SFPONU (GPON ONU) for testing as an option to deploy Mikrotiks in a gpon network.

After receiving the module I configured a profile bridging multiple tagged vlans (including a multicast vlan) from a Dasan OLT to the module after it was properly identified and initialised by the OLT.

Unicast traffic is working properly through the GPON SFP ( to the extent I tested) but multicast is not getting through at all.
Also the ONU reports CMD_ERROR when loading multicast configuration from the OLT ONU profile.

As multicast and broadcast in a GPON network use a separate global gem port - 4094 in our case - perhaps a firmware bug is preventing the ONU from receiving data on this gem port?

I have not been able to find any documentation / firmware for this module. The chipset seems to be from Marvell, perhaps Avanta LP MC-88F6601 ? Firmware is "MRVL ONU 1.0A".

Has anyone managed to use this module with multicast traffic?

I doubt you're going to find answer to such question here.. Have you tried your PON profile on other non-Dasan ONUs? Everything I tried so far, worked fine with Dasan OLTs. No multicast though. I think it's evil and try to stay away from it.

Hi, I have problem with multicast too - huawei gpon OLT... I have modified ont srv profile and then multicast and igmp goes through sfp to switch... but... after some time-15-20hours, general query is not passed to the switch connected via mikrotik sfp, then router port is lost and multicast stop... I have set router port as static - this is the solution, maybe-we will see after 15-20 hours... now we are testing....

Mikrotik has ONE big disadvantage... unsupported IGMP snooping :) generally...
