idiot's guide to which frequency is in use?

Fri Oct 20, 2006 3:26 pm

Hello,

In a WDS AP/Station pair (two MikroTik's with WDS link), which frequency is in use, the one displayed by the master unit or the one displayed by the slave unit or are both frequencies in use, respectively?

I think, AP frequency is used.
Station uses AP frequency channel (AP<>station-wds),
wds-slave adapts to AP frequency channel (AP<>wds-slave),
frequency should be the same on both ends (AP<>AP).

If I'm not making a mistake/cockpit error, that's why I asked - the frequencies displayed on both ends are different.

That leads to whether we've been searching for a "clear channel" correctly.

IOW, do you have to have one or two (one each way) clear channels in order to operate?

The AP freq is in use.
The Station/Station-wds scan-freq is in use.

If you have AP freq=5200
and Station scan-freq=5100,5205
The won't connect.

If you have AP freq=5100
station scan-freq=5100,5000,5005,5010,5015,5210,5215,5220
They will connect as the station will search for all this freq and find the AP.

The Station/Station-wds freq is ignored as the AP scan-freqs are ingnored and they doesn't matter.

Thanks - that's also the way we thought it worked as well, with the exception that the station _seems_ to never shows the frequency at which it found the AP.

Why is that?

thanks/regards/ldv

In Winbox you have to go to the Status tab, or you can see it by PRINT STATS on the /interface wireless on the console.
