Mikrotik RB112 not have licence???

Sun Mar 20, 2016 9:28 pm

Hi everyone,

I have mikrotik routerboard 112 without a license! I do not know how to lose and what do I do? Can you consult what to do in order to return the license?

Make sure the RB112 is setup to have internet access (default gateway, masquerading, DNS) , then try "Update License key" button.

If that doesn't work, generate a supout file and write to support attaching it and explaining the situation.

Sounds like a HW issue (failed NAND).

It doesn't have to be a failed NAND, if the netinstall process significantly changed the aparent "geometry" (e.g. by marking blocks as unusable), this can happen.

Before writing to support, you could try the following trick (applies to anyone with a RouterBOAD with key problems):

Log into mikrotik.com (or make a new account), then click on "Request key" and enter the XXXX-YYYY SoftID in the search field. This will search other peoples accounts for the key you need. If this device was purchased from somebody else, and lost the key, this way you could find the key you need.

Well NAND is not completely failed it just have some bad blocks (which are marked after reinstallation with netinstall). It is important that ROS 5.26 does behave normally now. The main problem is coming from fact that this procedure with netinstall, in order to be successful, made me to format NAND from bootloader first. This made ROS generate new Soft ID.

And Normis, I agree with you. This is what I have tried already but new Soft ID is never registered at mikrotik.com. My old Soft ID and key is registered to distributor from which I purchased RB112. What I couldn't find is key replacement procedure (like I want to give you back this key and here is new soft id, provide me new key - for RB's at least).

Now, I made support ticket and I need to wait, if someone response to it.

Meanwhile, I made demo Level 1 license for RB112 because I do not want to perform netinstall again. NAND has limited number of erase during its lifecycle. I believe that this is root cause of bad memory blocks (constant writing of log files) since this machine has been operating at home for a long time.

Well, nsx02 in total I think that it worked for around 5 years (not including time spent in the box). I've used it for lot of different purposes but usually to handle two-three VLANs and two SSIDs. Last task was wifi link to range of 3-5km to collect data from some data loggers (this is where problems start to occur) . So, I have replaced it with another RB112. :)

And swissiws , I cannot just let it go. If something is doing job good than it must be used. It is stupid to use tank to shoot a bird, if you understand what I mean.

I like the design of RB112 more than RB133, so compact and ROS is so powerful on such small footprint.

You know that you are talking about 10 years old hardware...we like more RB911/912 hardware.
