For me it is not an issue when we are using Mikrotik devices with stock ROS, but there are lots of us who also use Mikrotik devices to build some custom solutions. For some of them ROS is awesome, but for some we need some custom packages or routing protocols which only OpenWrt offers, and no Metarouter is also not solution for everything.
Having your components change makes it hard for us who build these derivative products... because sometimes we need to know that device doesn't change for at least 2-3 years, never if possible
Mikrotik is great in that regard, you keep your devices available for quite long time and don't change them too often, please keep it up!
We are building a new prototype of MeshPoint (
http://www.meshpoint.me) which will be based upon Mikrotik SXT Lite2 devices, but now I need to wait until new device is supported under OpenWrt.
