New SXT Lite2 revision (SXT2nDr2 vs SXT2nDr3) ?

Sun Apr 03, 2016 7:49 am

Hi,
just got two new SXT Lite2 devices and noticed in Winbox that it says "SXT 2nD r3" and also on the box after the serial it says "553/r2" vs "547" model that was on device I bought two weeks ago.

What are the changes between SXT2nDr2 and SXT2nDr3 ?

You are right, chip that is missing is "Samsung 519 k9f1g08u0e scbo" and that is 128MB flash chip.

@Mikrotik guys please make this info known on your Routerboard product page, this is info for some is maybe not important but for some it is crucial!

It seems that this information is not for Mikrotik important and therefore it never mentions :(

We are now debating how to best show this info. On one side, the SXT Lite2 has changed. On the other, the other 90% SXT Lite2 devices that are in distributor stock, are the older models. When should we update the RouterBOARD.com page? We could offer a revision history of some kind, we will think of something that makes it clearer for you guys.

As for the usual NAND vs SPI debate, we ship the CPE devices with enough storage to work with default package set, and for the device to be able to upgrade normally.

For me it is not an issue when we are using Mikrotik devices with stock ROS, but there are lots of us who also use Mikrotik devices to build some custom solutions. For some of them ROS is awesome, but for some we need some custom packages or routing protocols which only OpenWrt offers, and no Metarouter is also not solution for everything.

Having your components change makes it hard for us who build these derivative products... because sometimes we need to know that device doesn't change for at least 2-3 years, never if possible :)

Mikrotik is great in that regard, you keep your devices available for quite long time and don't change them too often, please keep it up!

We are building a new prototype of MeshPoint (http://www.meshpoint.me) which will be based upon Mikrotik SXT Lite2 devices, but now I need to wait until new device is supported under OpenWrt.

You can't damage RouterBOARD devices with upgrades. Upgrade is supported on all RouterBOARD devices, and if you would want to install more packages than space, upgrade will simply not happen.
