How to setup a transparent bridge without WDS

Wed Oct 25, 2006 3:09 pm

Hello,

We have recently started to use the RIC522 to create a network extension with an IP camera.

We have followed the example supplied into the RouterOS manual with WDS bridges and setup a transparent bridge.

However WDS does not support DFS and it supposed to be used with 5 Ghz.

Could someone let us know how we can setup a ptp transparent bridge not using WDS.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Guy.

Eoip vs WDS

Wed Oct 25, 2006 4:30 pm

Hello,

Thanks for your prompt response.

Well we have used WDS as the router os manual said that Eoip was slightly slower than WDS using bridging.

We have connected an IP camera over the wireless network and it is not really displaying 25 frames per second as it does on a local wired network.

We might have to tune the wireless configuration to get a nicer video I do not really know what to do to get these 25 FPS.

How big the throughput you need?
To decrease lack performance, you have tune up your wireless setting.
Put static datarate, etc etc.

IP camera throughput

Well, throughput is not that big it is about 256 kbps to 512 kbps per camera.
Since I am an idiot in wireless tuning could you let me know what we need to tune in the MT router in order to get a nice streaming.

make the datarate static.
if you need 5 mbps in total, make the datarate at least twice.

use the G or G-Turbo mode.
disable the DFS

if you make a long range link (>15 km), set the ack-timeout manually.
see the table on manual.

try to test the throughput using bandwidth test, see if you already got good link.

We have several links using WDS and DFS with no issues. What problems are you seeing.

if you know how to work with DFS, it's a good feature to use. :)

DFS and streaming throughput

Fri Oct 27, 2006 12:02 pm

What happenned when we used DFS with an ap-bridge and wds-station the wireless trafic has stopped. I believe that we should rather used wds-slave and DFS.

The product has been now shipped to the customer and we cannot conduct anymore testing.

Thanks to all for your help.

Regards,
Guy.

Make sure that both AP and station-wds use the same configuration for scan-list.
'scan-list' contains frequencies, for AP to select less overloaded frequency, for station to select AP operating on the different frequencies.
