Port flappings on RB1100AHx2

Wed Apr 27, 2016 5:03 am

Just noticed our 3rd RB1100AHx2 routerboard experiencing port flappings when I check the log. Since this is the THIRD one now, figured I'd make a thread.

Is this just something to be expected after a couple years of use? Typically its 3-4 ports or more, and all go to 'link-down', then 'link up' on the log, typically all at the same time.

Replacing the routerboard fixes the issue.

Hello Wispwest

What wersion of ROS are You using?
Please read change logs for version 6.35 - there is a lot of changes related to flapping ports.

Haha, oh yes I always try upgrading firmware as a last-chance fix for things like it. I even took it to 6.35 before replacing it

What are the logs saying?

I seen this before when I copied the configuration from another router and accidentally copied the MAC addresses.

The router closes the loop (flaps the port) thinking there is a loop.

Might not be your case... Just a thought.

basically just "ether4 link down, ether5 link down, ether6 link down", and then a minute later "ether4 link up, ether5 link up, etc"
