Traying to understand userman (closed)

Tue Nov 14, 2006 5:15 pm

Hello people. I was reading and re-reading the mikrotik wiki to setup user manager in order to develop in my wireless network some kind of user authentication and time control.
Let me give you a short scenario of my network:

ISP => Eth0 (WAN) Mikrotik (routerboard 500a) => Eth1 LAN (DHCP server 192.168.0/24) => Access Points => clients

So, i followed the wiki in this step i had the problem. I use the User Manager/DHCP Example. I supposed that the DHCP server lease an IP to the client, but when the user open a browser it will ask for a username and password. But the DHCP doesn´t lease any IP address. I followed with the investigation :) and then i added a router and then a username, but what i saw is that the username should be with the mac address of the client and without password. After that i get the IP address. if i enter a password i didn´t receive an IP.

I don´t want to bore you but can someone give me an idea how could i setup this in order to create users (with usernames, not mac address, cause i dont now the mac address of the new clients) and lease them an IP but if they want to connect to the internet they will need to enter a valid username and password.

Thanks to all

Hello friend,

My suggestion, you must plan scenario your network as 'Transparant Network' until end client. here we are assigns 2 layer networks, first layer for manage of network and other for authentication user. and we used userman as radius server too for manage my hotspot and pppoe system over wire and unwire.

Special Thanks: Mikrotik and Team Works
