Problems with Hostpot users staying connected & reconnec

Tue Oct 24, 2006 11:43 pm

We are having problems with Hotspot users staying connected and getting reconnected. If the users computer hibernates or they reboot their computer, they cannot re-connect to the Hotpsot gateway. They don't get a login page.

The user gets a blank web page when opening Internet explorer. The user can only access walled garden items and can ping the hotspot gateway. If they wait awhile, they can eventually get a login page and login again.

Our users are getting extremely frustrated with not being able to get a login page or re-connected to the Hotspot gateway once their computer has hibernated or rebooted.

I am assuming that we have something setup wrong but we used the Hotspot setup wizzard to setup the Hotspot. We use only http-PAP for login authentication. We did have cookies enabled but have disabled cookies to try and fix the problem.

Just check the idel timeout for the Hotspot server and the idel timeout for user profile, you can reduce it to be 15 <-----> 30 minuets to kikout the user (logout) after this period of inactivity
You can enable the cookie to help the user to auto login next time he reconnect to the hotspot, you can play with HTTP cookie lifetime acording to your needs.
Or you can disable it to force the user to re type the username and password each time he want to login

I'm getting a similar problem only I'm using MAC authentication, and it seams to be random. Clearing them out of the hotspot host list will get them to automatically and immediately authenticate properly.

I think the problem may be the radius server that I'm using, but I'll let you know. I recently upped the timeout on my radius server to 900ms.
