Bridge ethernet freezes

Mon Sep 26, 2016 3:41 am

I am trying to do a connection using 2 separate bridges. The first link is about 1500' to the top of a grain elevator. I used some RBSXTG 5Ghz radios. Works fine. The other link is about 3 miles and was using older rb532 boards. I decided to use Dynadish 5 for that link. I get that link up and it works great. Signal strength is excellent. I plug both bridges in to the own switch and traffic is passing, but then the Ethernet ports of both radios at the top of the elevator lock up. The two radios are the only thing in the switch. I power cycle both radios at the grain elevator and link comes back up for 2 - 10 minutes and freezes again. I am using NV2 on both the links, I have checked many times to make sure I have no IP conflicts. If I don't plug both of them into the switch, the links stay up perfect and the Ethernet ports do not freeze. When the Ethernet locks up on the radios, you can still get in from the wireless side. If you do a disable/enable on the ethernet it works fine again for a few minutes. The only thing different from the old link (which I had to put back up) was it was using nstreme instead of NV2. I took the OS up to the latest and still the same problem.

Any help out there?

Is the lock up happening on the Dynadish or or on the SXT?

In a very very rare case, there might be a physical (layer 1) non compability on Ethernet level. So my advice is to put a different (brand) switch in between the radio and your normal switch. Just for temporary use you can even use el cheapo switch, just to see if it helps.

Also, check the grounding, especially if you use a STP cable. If your switch is metallic you should ground it to your local grid. Also ground the SXT (if possible) and the Dynadish.
