The Dude, v6.38 [current] release.

Mon Jan 02, 2017 4:40 pm

Version 6.38 has been released.

Major changes:

*) Added - AES encryption method for snmp v3
*) Added - Dude now have configuration interface in Winbox/Webfig
*) Added - Network maps now are viewable from web interface (Webfig)
*) Agents - Now any RouterOS device can be used as The Dude agent. It no longer requires
server package and ROS login. (Agents need to have same version as Dude server)
*) Agents - Old agent section removed from client.
*) Improoved - Changed SSL connection timeouts. This will reduce SSL CPU load when secure sessions are used
*) Removed - Since default Winbox used in the Dude wasn't fully compatible with all RouterOS devices, we removed it completely.

Other changes:

*) Fixed - Bandwidth test tool. (broken since v6.37)
*) Fixed - Auto-discovery was adding devices with non-usable characters in name field.
*) Fixed - Issues with link not changing color when traffic grows.
*) Some improvements for DB data write in store.
*) Removed - Link label will not change colour on link speed change.
*) Fixed - Allow users without FTP policy to connect to dude server (access to files will be restricted).
*) Fixed - Discovery stayed in "finishing" status.
*) Fixed - Devices showed device_performance even if the host were down.
*) Fixed - Snmpwalk were broken on X86 devices.
*) Fixed - History charts was flapping if the monitored device were down.
*) Fixed - v4 backup import fail.
*) Fixed - Multi-core devices showed CPU usage only from one core.
*) Fixed - Error on dude RADIUS authentication.
*) Fixed - In some setups dude server caused memory leak on X86/CHR.
*) Added - Dude server now supports spectral scan up to 7Ghz.
*) Fixed - Dude db-import failed if server was disabled at the moment when import of old db was initiated.
*) Fixed - Dude client stuck on "getting stuff" state.
*) Fixed - Disk name were changed on RB hEX if the dude was used on USB flash or mSD card.
*) Fixed - default files will be stored in dude files folder if the file system does not support symlinks (fat32)
*) Fixed - avoid going into loop (Dude client could get stuck in loading phase)
*) Fixed - File upload to dude/file directory caused client crash
*) Fixed - Background images could disappear on version change
*) Fixed - Minor changes in Dude fonts
*) Added - Dude icon in Winbox/Webfig
*) Fixed - Increased default ping packet size to 54bytes - there was some devices who wasn't able to respond with 32 byte ICMP packets, this caused ping corruption.
*) Fixed - Typo "Authetication" -> "Authentication"
*) Fixed - Changes wasn't saved if done in Winbox - notification body.
*) Fixed - Bandwith test authentication problem
*) Fixed - Resolve Windows environment variables

To avoid some problems related to Dude, follow these suggestions:

*) It is suggested to use only ext3 file format for the Dude data directory, it's more stable for the Dude.
*) Store your custom files Only in dude/files directory
*) Custom fonts should not be used

Since default Winbox is removed, you can add path to your Winbox.exe file with simple step:

Open Tools => [+] sign => in "Command" add your Winbox path, for Windows users use:
%HOMEPATH%\Desktop\winbox.exe [Device.FirstAddress] [Device.UserName] "[Device.Password]"

Hey Guys,

Now that Dude dev is going strong, anychance we can get a decent mapping system?

Using LibreNMS, it pulls the location from my device (snmp location) and plots it nicely on the map where the device is.

This would be a really cool feature, I like the Dude, but its hard to maintain the maps section.

Is anyone else having issues with the tools > Winbox tool not showing up on the client for the Dude? I tried version 6.38 and 6.39rc4 and am getting the same result. I upgraded from the previous version 6.37.3 and had no issues.

Thanks,

Lynn

Many Thanks!

Something has changed in tcp probes. I was using a probe like this :
GET /rrcp/52:54:4c:00:00:01@eth1 HTTP/1.1\r\n\r\n
Which I got from an example in some old forum post and no longer works and just gives connection closed, but using this simplified method fixes it :
GET /rrcp/52:54:4c:00:00:01@eth1 \n

Since default Winbox is removed, you can add path to your Winbox.exe file with simple step:

%HOMEPATH%\Desktop\winbox.exe [Device.FirstAddress] [Device.UserName] "[Device.Password]"
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:The_Dude_v6/Tools
Since in our office we connect to Dude from different locations, could it be possible to add use the winbox.exe stored in a remote path?

I see i can run only a "command" so i tried to run a powershell script which calls the remote winbox.exe but no Arguments like [Device.FirstAddress] [Device.UserName] "[Device.Password]" are used correctly.

Any ideas?

I would appreciate this information as well.

Also, I was having difficulty with the script calling the program to run from my desktop because of my firewall / malware rules on windows 10. I was able to get it to work successfully once I placed winbox.exe in the program files under the dude and used that location in quotation marks as it is written below. I imagine it will work in any location you choose with quotations, but I prefer it to live in the default location with the dude program, so here is what my command line looked like:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Dude\winbox.exe" [Device.FirstAddress] [Device.UserName] "[Device.Password]"

I hope this helps.

Certainly is possible.

Just place the correct path to your winbox.exe in the "Command" box, e.g. /home/you/Desktop/winbox.exe [Device.FirstAddress] [Device.UserName]

Works fine.

Having problems with connectivity to the Mikroti AP.
One Mikrotik is doing DHCP, routing,... the other is AP.

When upgraded both of them, I cannot connect to the AP (which is connected via cable in the main Mikrotik router). I can't event ping the AP.

If I set STP to none on main router (now is rstp), I can ping and connect to the AP. On both of machines there are few VLAN intefraces. Why is this happening after the upgrade?

As "ste" written at previous Dude topic:

Feature request:
We have customers powering their device only at times they want to go online.
I would like:
- to see last time the device was online (to see if it is used at all).
- schedule an update in dude when he is able to connect this devices

PLEASE add that features to the Dude - it would be VERY usefull and are needed.

My Networks are evolving, Is there a way to move devices between maps? I've created a MAP call Legacy,
which I would like to park devices that are not active or expired. Maybe there is a better way, like a Hide flag??

@Micropower
On source map select device (or devices) you want to move, then press Ctrl+C.
Click on destination map, then press Ctrl+V.
Delete unnecessary devices from source map.

6.38rc52.
When I create a new submap, it doesn't appear in the general map.
Workaround: first I create the new submap, then I create other (not new) map, finally I link they themselves.

rzirzi - to see last time the device was online (to see if it is used at all).

It can be seen in Device -> History graph, or in Services -> Outages (show down times)
Also you could make notification, and apply to this device (log, email...)
Would you need some additional way ?

- schedule an update in dude when he is able to connect this devices

Scheduled RouterOS upgrades ? Some related requests are reported to developers.

Micropower - My Networks are evolving, Is there a way to move devices between maps?

At the moment you can't move devices, it's in our To-Do list. But you can do as
ditonet suggested - Copy/Paste.

Ciambot - Thanks, problem reported.

i am using dude 3.6 on RB433 (ROS 4.17 than upgraded to 5.26) since long time ago with about 20 clients using rb433. 90% connections of clients are using vsat; latency about 600-700ms. the above old version of dude works great as i can see all of the device status and each the link statistics; it means, all the snmp community are set correctly. most of the clients are still using ROS 4.17 and 5.26. only some of them using v6.x

since receive my new RB750Gr3, i install it with ros 6.38 and dude 6.38 too; mmips version.
all of the device status can be seen but for the link statistics only from the device of ROS 6.x can be seen; all others that use ROS 4.x and 5.x only shown ?/?
on the snmp tab of devices, all sub-tab show nothing. interface blank, ip blank, etc.

am i missing something ?
is the new dude v6 ignore the link statistics for ros <6 with high latency (>500ms) ?

additional note: i have another dude 3.6 on pc using ROS v3.x at the other place and it still work to get the device and link status correctly.

thank you

Paul

Changes in v6.38.1:

*) Fixed - Tool fetch didn't work with notification - execute on server
*) Fixed - Link type speed was not recognised
*) Fixed - Broken Simple queue edit/delete feature
*) Fixed - Dude showed only part of all Simple queue
*) Fixed - Submap icon wasn't placed on map if "New Map" option was used.
*) Fixed - Custom tool wasn't accessible from Devices-> List
*) Fixed - Device -> RouterOS didn't show interfaces in interface dropdown list
*) Fixed - Error was displayed when tried to edit multiple simlpe queues
*) Fixed - Server crash

prawira - I haven't seen problems with RouterOS v5 devices. Check in Devices => RouterOS => Device, to see if your Dude server is connected to this device.
sparrow - The crash was caused by slow storage drive. All data that were not stored, was making queue until eat all RAM, which lead to kernel panic.
macak91 - Please test 6.38.1, if problem remains, write email to support@mikrotik.com

Updated from 6.38rc to 6.38.1 (X86) tonight, then checked out the Dude in Winfig (still checking to see if Web maps are ready for prime time :). Whenever I go to Dude>Server Config., it locks up Chrome. Also locks up IE 11, but IE does give me a message that it has stopped responding due to a long running script. I also note IE seems very sluggish overall compared to Chrome.

I see the items I reported some time back are still there. Slow to load background images, and a problem with displaying the degrees symbol correctly.

Cheers.

nje431 - some quick tests didn't show any problems using Webfig Dude>Server Config (6.38.1) from Chrome/Firefox. Can you repeat this from different PC ?
honnnza - Can you please write mail to support@mikrotik.com with description and attached supout file ?

Its interesting, maybe this is my problem too, how fast may be a microSD card to avoid this?
I have od HEX microSD from Sandisk - https://www.sandisk.com/home/memory-car ... ce-microsd speed up to 20MB/s

Make sure you have fast storage drive (USB/SD card), if the storage drive will be too slow, data will not be saved in time, and will slowly make queues in the RAM.

update:
It seems that it's not a problem in this case. Please provide us with remote access or:

Reboot device and generate new supout.rif file after ~1 minute.
Now wait until RAM is almost full (before router reboots itself) and generate another file.

Download both of these files and send them to us. One will represent situation when everything is fine and other when it is not. We will try to trace what fills up RAM between these two moments when files are generated.

Send both files to support@mikrotik.com

nje431 - some quick tests didn't show any problems using Webfig Dude>Server Config (6.38.1) from Chrome/Firefox. Can you repeat this from different PC ?

Thanks.
Originally I saw the problem on a Win7 laptop. I just tried it on an Android tablet and got the same result. So I tried rebooting the router, but the problem is still there.

Found the issue. I logged in using Winbox, then went into Dude>Server Config. Under the "Discover" tab (I never use discover), I found that "Ignore Services" was red. It was filled with a lot of services, including multiple copies of one I didn't recognize, which could have been an old experiment (rnd 50:50). If I cleared out all but about a dozen or so services (didn't seem to matter which ones), the color turned blue. Then Webfig would not freeze.

Since I am the only one that has access to this Dude server, those services must have self populated, since I never go to that tab.

You can put Winbox back yourself, in the Tools section. This was always possible.
When I create a new winbox Tool as described above, no matter what I put in the "Command" box, after I hit "OK" the result is a new command with the correct name, but an empty body, and type set to "unknown". What am I doing wrong?

This issue is discussed at length earlier in this thread, so your less than helpful reply is also less than accurate.

Thankfully, I stumbled upon another thread specific to this issue just a few minutes ago, so there's no need to go to the trouble of posting a link to it.

Hallo everyone.

I got the new fresh installation with hotspot and userman yesterday using rb951ui-2hnd. The unit installed with ros 6.38

The things that surprise me is, i can not add 2nd profile on userman with error already exist. The profile name surely different but it always said already exist. I did try both from web and cmd but both ways gave me the same error message.

When i downhrade to 6.37, the problem solved.

What's going on with 6.38 ?

Hello,
I've always used The Dude4.0beta3 quick access and read-only with hidden password by clicking on the device, tools / Winbox, it works perfectly ..

In Dude version 6.38.1 (with RouterBOARD 750G r3 hEX) this was removed, but I created the tool normally this way:

"%homedrive%%homepath%\desktop\winbox.exe" [Device.FirstAddress] [Device.UserName] [Device.Password]

Also works !, but if winbox.exe is not in the path indicated (this may occur) an error appears in the Dude client and shows the secret password registered!

Note: if I create the same tool in Dude4.0beta3 and inform an incorrect path to winbox.exe it will not work but also does not show the error message with the secret_password, that's good.

Please, could check and correct this, not to report the error with the visible password if the winbox.exe path is inconsistent ..

(Post # 25 also mentions this)
Thank you very much

Changes in v6.38.1:

prawira - I haven't seen problems with RouterOS v5 devices. Check in Devices => RouterOS => Device, to see if your Dude server is connected to this device.
as mentioned, the problem only happen on ROS v5 and v4 with high latency (>500ms). no problem with low latency devices.

Checking and testing I still found another bug that shows the password !, in version v4 and v6, when we click on the device / tools / "Web", it shows the command line with the password:

Mikrotik_RouterOS_Device
Http://192.168.141.2/cfg?user=user&pass ... &backpage=

I removed this standard tool!
Name: Web
Command: "[DeviceType.Url]"

... and created a new tool
Name: Web Browser
Command: "http: // [Device.FirstAddress]"

So if there is an error does not show the password! ,,, But for the winbox.exe tool I'm waiting for help, thanks.

DFS-mode selections gone, and wireless set to fixed radar detect on. For good, or just a miss?
5815 to 5850 MHz dissappeared a long time ago from "norway 5.8 p-p". Why did it disappear, and is there a chance to get them back? It's still legal for use in norway.

No one else having this problems?
Funny thing, I had this same problem with a cAP2N. After upgrade cannot access it from the wired side, It showed connected Ethernet, and it even passed traffic for two other Virtual AP's onto VLANs. But I could not access it from the wired side on any method.
I connected to the AP through wireless, and I could connect with the "tikAPP" on the android phone. Could change settings etc. Ironically my phone got an IP address from a distant DHCP server that was connected in such... cAP2n >wired< RB493 >wired< CRS125 The CRS 125 did the DHCP.

I could not access anything other than this cAP while being connected. While sitting reading your post I thought, I'll try this and I changed the Bridge on the 493 that included the Ethernet port 2 that connected to the cAP from rstp to NONE and then all of the sudden I could access the cAP2n with no problems. The Bridge on the cAP2n is set to rstp still. Switching back the bridge on the 493 to rstp from none breaks connectivity.

fyi - power cycle on the cAP2n prior to any of this did not fix the issue, nor did a reboot when connected from the wireless side.

Any ideas as to why it was working fine before the upgrade and then not afterwards?

Im missing Winbox Tool.
We have multiple PC with dude client - every1 has different path to dude client.
Adding path do winbox.exe in system path doesn't fix the problem.
This is very bad. Please fix it.

Hello!

Is it possible to create an user without possibility to use the sensitive information stored on devices?

Because on Dude 4.0beta3, we deliver the web for seeing network maps and from the web, they couldn't use the password, for example, to access Winbox as admin.

And, now, sorry for this, but the web from the older version was better, multiple times better than this version.

I want to be able to deliver access for TheDude Desktop but without the sensitive information, so they could not use [Device.Password] for example, if logged in with user that doesn't have sensitive checked on System, Users

Thanks

Re: The Dude, v6.38 [current] release.

Thu Feb 23, 2017 5:47 pm

I have just upgraded to 6.38.3 and have noticed a change in behaviour regarding devices that have parents that are down. My scenario is this:

I have an AP connected to a CPE. The AP has designated the CPE as its parent.

Previously if the CPE (and therefore the AP) were down the CPE would show in red and the AP in grey. If I then ACK the CPE it would turn blue and the AP would remain grey. Since the upgrade all my CPE devices that were previously red or blue remain that way but the AP devices that were grey now show as red. i.e. the parent setting seems to be being ignored.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Steve

We really need custom fonts, when is it possible to provide support for us?
And how to recreate snmp profile 'no-snmp' after deleting? If create profile has version 'none', community field is not empty - it is filled 'public'. Hosts continue to be polled by snmp.

You could use '/dude export-db backup-file=blabla.tgz' in CLI and then copy the file.

I posted this in another string but i figured that i should try here since there is posts about backups

So i am running Dude 6.38.3 I spend 12 hours building out our entire network to wake up the next morning and having it all Gone. So I rebuilt it again. about 200 Devices running on a CCR1016. after I got the network completely done I went to back it up so that if i lost the data again i could restore. I started the backup 16 hours ago. 16 Hours ago. again for dramatic effect 16 HOURS AGO.

currently it is stating this:

/dude print
enabled: yes
data-directory: SSD
status: disabling before export: waiting for config changes to flush (3910678 bytes in queue)

After 16 Hours it has yet to backup a 45 Meg file. WTH. I am more then pleased that the DUDE was resurrected. However, I do not understand why a simple backup takes this long. It should take minute. I have backup my entire cloud platform 1.5 TBs twice during this simple database backup.

Can someone please give me and idea what the problem is.

I am running a CCR1016-12s-1S+ with an SSD dedicated for just the DUDE.

Now I fail to do so. I can upload package file using winbox, but they do not show up in the upgrade menu.

What might I do wrong? Where do the files need to go to, which folder on thedude server using winbox?

thx for help

you need to put them into your dude/files directory then the system will see them. I have no idea why they have made this part of the system so difficult

I'm running DUDE Version 3.6 on a singe Windows 7 machine for years to monitor a Windows environment. I see no software package for the newer releases of The Dude to run 'stand alone' on a typical Windows machine.

I'm afraid so. The current version of Dude server runs only on CHR, ROS x86 and selected routerboards. Windows server was removed. See here: viewtopic.php?t=102772

The last stand-alone version was 4.0beta3, build date 2012-06-13.
Unfortunately I can not provide you with a download link, as it seem not to be available in the download archive.
A google search for 'dude-install-4.0beta3.zip' may help.

You can install Virtualbox on your windows 7 machine and run ROS CHR with Dude. Dude in CHR is very good.
