Linksys WAP54G compatibility problem with MT hotspot

Sun Dec 05, 2004 3:17 pm

I have a MT with router OS 2.8.19 connected directly to a Linksys WAP54G (tried firmware versions 1.08 to 2.08) on its hotspot (private) interface. I also have another Linksys connected on the Internet (public) interface. I connected the linksys to the MT via 10/100 Ethernet NIC's in the MT.

In order to monitor the access point on the hotspot interface I used the /tool netwatch command. However the MK refuses to ping the WAP54G on hotspot interface. I get "packet rejected". The WAP54G is on the network and other network activity seems to be fine because I have no problem to ping the WAP54G from a Win XP PC that is connected to the hotspot interface via the WAP54G and has no problem to get a DHCP address from the MT hotspot interface.

If I put the same device on the internet interface and only change the ip address of the WAP54G, I have no problem. I then thought I must have a firewall issue, but that is not the case, beacuse if I connect I Win XP PC to the hotspot interface with the same IP as the WAP54G had, I can ping the device without any problems and I can also ping other PC's on the hotspot interface without problems, but not the WAP54G.

Has anyone else seen this behaviour or have any advice?

Try putting a switch inbetween the Wap54g and the mikrotik hotspot interface. I seem to remember having the same problem connecting two Mikrotik's together(both were in bridge mode), and the only way that I could get them to talk was putting a switch inbetween them. Not quite sure why this made a difference, but thinking this is something you can try.
