wAP Placement: Affixed to Brick Wall?

Thu Mar 16, 2017 11:53 am

Hi Folks-

Went to the MUM in London recently, and the freebie was a wAP. Had this thingy on my desk for a while, but with BBQ season in the offing, decided to actually DO something with it and mount it directly on the house's brick wall. However, my research indicates this might be a bad idea: "Mistake 6" in this page http://7signal.com/blog/10-wi-fi-antenn ... -mistakes/

The wAP (from what I could gather) is an omni-directional antenna with an Isotropic coverage pattern. These facts when considered with "Mistake 6" noted above would indicate that half the signal will be directed into the wall and reflected back. But yet, the wAP being shipped in an outdoor enclosure, comes with hardware to affix it to walls and for most outdoor placements this would imply a brick wall.

Is this going to cause material performance issues, or can I get away with just mounting to the house's exterior brick wall?

Hi,
Yes,
You are right, Antenna beam width is 360, and it’s already 2dbi,
Means almost 1dbi is waisted, since reflection is not that much effective in this case,

I think this is a kind of design bug!!!!!!
They have to think about it…..
