N vs AC tx power

Good day,

I have a question on tx power with the new AC radios.

For example. Setting a basebox 5 to 20dbm manual tx power I will get a signal strength of - 55.
Replacing the basebox with a Netmetal 5 and manually setting the tx power to 20 gives me tx signal of - 69 ?

Same happens if you put the radios on regulatory domain.

Is it something to do with total tx power/ power per chain maybe

Also the SNR on the netmetals is worse then the basebox

I think it has to do with the netmetal being stronger than the basebox (mW) when setting both on 20dbm basicly the netmetal is "screaming" and your basebox is not that powerfull(mW) when set to 20dbm.
I don't know im only sharing what has happend in my network with similar situations as yours.

I think it has to do with the netmetal being stronger than the basebox (mW) when setting both on 20dbm basicly the netmetal is "screaming" and your basebox is not that powerfull(mW) when set to 20dbm.

In theory setting both the radios to 20dbm, they should still output the same wattage ?
If i set a normal RB-Metal5 to about 20 it gives the same signal as te basebox.

its almost like the older N radios was tx per chain where the new ac ones is total tx power

Wrong. Read the manual:
tx-power (integer [-30..30]; Default: ) | For 802.11ac wireless interface it's total power but for 802.11a/b/g/n it's power per chain.

So the is a power difference between the 2 at same dbm
