MGMT port

Mon Apr 17, 2017 3:09 pm

Hi everybody!
Why I can't do it on one device, on different ports to assign ip addresses from the same subnet?
I need one Mikrotik, assign two ip addresses (same subnet) on different ethernet ports.
I need one managment port.
Best regards
Dmitrii

If you have the same subnet on two ports how does the router know where to send traffic?
Why you can't use different subnet for the management port?

The device is in the room provider physical access to it is difficult to obtain. I must configure the port on which the assigned external ip. I have only one subnet.
Many network devices is such a thing as the MGMT port. For full remote control. Now I'm scared to do something with the interface which is assigned ip address, I'm afraid to lose access to it.

Yes there is a function of SAFE MODE, but it does not fully replace the MGMT port

MikroTik have MAC-level management like mac-telnet mac-winbox and RoMON
Of course it only works when you have L2 access to the router.
Alternatively, setup IPv6 (you should have done that already!) and you can use IPv6 for management of the IPv4 config without risk of locking out.
