RouterOS Upgrade Question

Thu May 04, 2017 6:46 pm

Guys,

We manage about 75 Mikrotiks. We have about 15 CCR1009, 55 RB2011s, and the remaining being split among AH1100x2 and rb750 and CRS switches

I have to update all of them from time to time, but I also want to thoroughly test the versions before using them.

I have a script which can update RouterOS and firmware automatically if I wish. However it pulls from Mikrotik and always pulls the latest version, which is not always the best for us.

I also know that Mikrotiks can be setup using the Auto Upgrade function to look at a central Mikrotik as an update source. The idea is that we can test new versions, and then publish them to this central mikrotik and within a week, all the other mikrotiks will update themselves.

The questions are these: Can I use a CCR 1009 as an update source for all the other mikrotiks, even if their CPU architecture is different? or do I have to setup a central source for each architecture?

Hi.

You can use your CCR 1009 as central upgrade source, having in file list .npk file of the architecture you have in your different routers and with scripting do the job.

My advice is not upgrade your routers each time MT have a new update, unless you need and specific update feature or bug-fix. And test in not production routers the new routerOS and check here in forum the comments of the specific versions.

Regards.

Thanks.

That is the plan. I have a set of lab routers and non critical routers we will test on. When we approve a version, we will upload it to the update unit, which will update our production units.
