IP packing with MPLS/VPLS

Fri Sep 23, 2016 11:16 am

Hello guys,

Wel, this may be a stupid question but, is it possible to use ip packing in a vpls tunnel?

The secnario is this:
Two routers, A and B directly conected via ether1. I have a vlan (for example vlan 100) configured in ether1 of each router. The vlan have range 192.168.1.0/24 ips. I configure an eoip tunnel over those IP and then bridge the eoip tunnel with eth2. Easy set up. Now, if I configure ip packing (packing/unpacking=simple) on both routers on the vlans, i can see when sending traffic across the tunnel the ip packing is working.

But now, if I remove the eoip tunnel and configure a vpls tunnel instead (previously configuring ldp setting and stuff) and bridge it with eth2 the same way as before, ip packing is not working. May this be because of vpls running over MPLS and using mpls tags instead of ip or sth like this? That doesnt make any sense to me at all since IP adress is still used in comunication, but i don´t see any other difference between the two situations.

Thanks in advance for any help

Hi, I'm sorry to recover this old unanswered question, but I have the same interest to know if IP Packing is possible over VPLS tunnels.
Thanks,

Have you messaged support at all on this? Have you enabled neighbor discovery for the interface you are trying to send to? I don't think the MPLS / VPLS encapsulation would be enough to break this but I can't speak for how it is implemented within the code.
