Huawei USB E173 as dialup modem

Mon Jul 10, 2017 8:35 pm

I'm using a RG951G-2HND with routeros 6.39.2

I can see the Huawei E173 s-1 USB modem:
# DEVICE VENDOR NAME SPEED
0 1:1 Linux 3.3.5 ehci_hcd RB400 EHCI 480 Mbps
1 1:5 HUAWEI HUAWEI Mobile
# DEVICE NAME CHANNELS USED-BY BAUD-RATE
0 I 1:3 usb1 0
I can set up a working ppp-client connection with my provider vodafone, but if I try a dialup connection trought the usb modem, it fail, just keep saying:
19:27:13 async,ppp,info ppp-outP: initializing...
19:27:13 async,ppp,info ppp-outP: reseting link...
19:27:14 async,ppp,info ppp-outP: initializing modem...
19:27:15 async,ppp,info ppp-outP: dialing out...
19:27:16 async,ppp,info ppp-outP: initializing modem...
19:27:17 async,ppp,info ppp-outP: dialing out...
19:27:18 async,ppp,info ppp-outP: initializing modem...
19:27:18 async,ppp,info ppp-outP: initializing modem...
19:27:18 async,ppp,info ppp-outP: disabled
I was using the same dialup connection trought a serial modem (ppp-outOK) and it was working fine.
Can you please say me what I'm doing wrong?

The modem seems to work, maybe your config is wrong.

Of course it's a config problem, please give me an hint.
I don't know the dialup specification, could it be that dialup use pstn, and the modem doesn't allow it?
On the serial modem I can see that the connection command is: ATD<phone number>;

Now I've opened a session from >
/system serial-terminal usb1 channel=2
but get this output:
AT+COPS?
+COPS: 0,0,"vodafone IT",2

OK
AT+CREG?
+CREG: 0,1

OK
atd
ERROR
atd
ERROR
Would this means that with this modem I cannot made dialup connection?
Is there a list of supported hardware list for dialup?
Thanks

In wiki dialup page no hardware is mentioned, in supported hardware list, the modem is present, without any note.

Can you please at least say me what's wrong with this question? Netiquette has been respected so why no feedback?
