Setup WISP for 1.5km from base...

Wed Nov 15, 2017 10:53 am

I am planning to cover a small area (2km long, 1km wide, or everyside 1.5km from center point) with WIFI for thousand of users. Primary plan to using Omnidirectional Anterna and 8 to 10 or more repeater . Is it possible to create a area of 1.5km from base to every direction with this network system ?

Image

My requirement:
1. WIFI network for the mentioned area.
2. Maximum 1000 user avg 1mbps (all most 90% devices are smartphone)
3. Single SSID for whole area

Limitation
1. All user device should connect with ssid its mean network signal 2.4ghz
2. Budget, as low as possible.
3. Not enough Highspeed uplink connection facilities.

My Plan
1. Create a base station with 360 degree coverage for the facilities to place repeater in any side.
2. USE nanostations M2 as a repeater in different places.
3. No plan to use multiple SSID
4. Made a Tower around 80 feet from ground for base.

Please suggest me product with specific model for base and network infrustructure.

Thanks in Advanced.

Impossible. Phones will not deliver their signal to your main base.

Make many small cells and connect them to the center by 5g direct link.

If you literally mean "wifi repeater" then just give up now, because you won't get anywhere with it.
If by "repeater" you mean "2.4GHz AP backhauled to <somewhere> with <something>" where <something> is a cable or a wireless connection on a different band, then you're getting warmer. Just bear in mind that 1000 users on 8-10 APs is 100 users per AP which is quite optimistic

Why impossible ?
Here some other wisp serve internet using exact same procedure, they just use ubnt nanostation m2 as reapter for almost half km from base. I dont know what router they use.

My customer are moving all the area by there work schedule. And they can’t use multiple ssid for different places. Need to cover whole area.

You can use single ssid. But you can not use only one base with few repeaters sharing the same frequency with the uplink and the clients.

Whats the procedure to cover network for whole area ?
Can u mention Network diagram and devices ?
Can i control users from one mt board ?

You need to backhaul your APs with something. You will struggle if you try to provide access and do backhauling in 2.4GHz band. Sure, Wifi repeater products exist [maybe even RouterOS can be persuaded to do it], but you won't giving 100 users access off one of them.
Can i control users from one mt board ?
This is a question that comes up in various threads. Really you want to be doing as much access control and rate limit as you can toward the edge. This reduces load on the core and there's no point letting traffic that is going to be dropped any take up airtime.

No, you won't be able to support 1000 users with 6 access points. There's no problem with a single SSID, but adding enough access points on 2.4 is going to be difficult because there are so few separate channels.

Steps to improve your design:
  1. Change all the omni transmitters to multiple sectors. On 2.4 you can only have 3 sectors per tower, but that is an improvement. Tilt the sector antennas down to keep the cells from overlapping.
  2. Change all the backhaul links to 5GHz PtP links. No mesh or repeaters

#1 will increase the number of access points to 3x4+2=14, which still isn't much. I'd add one more tower to the design. You will need careful channel planning to avoid overlapping the channels, but given your conditions that's the best you can do.

Why won't you provide both 2.4 and 5GHz on the same SSID? Turn down the transmit power of the 2.4 by 6dB and let the clients decide which one to use. That would help spread the load.

(Edit: I hadn't paid any attention to the Ubiquiti device codes in the diagram. Apparently you were planning on sectors on two of the towers already. Good! You just need to add more cells to the design by using more sector APs. If you are planning to implement this with Ubiquiti devices, why don't you ask Ubiquiti forums?)
