Dual sim wifi router for buses

Thu Jan 25, 2018 6:43 pm

I was wandering if someone have any routerboard with dual sim slots and wifi 2.4 (prefer dual band 2.4/5ghz, but can be whithout). I need it for wifi hotspot project for tourist busses. I found the RBM33G, but it has no wifi cards.

The only option I can see IF you want to use Mikrotik for this is RB953GS-5HnT-RP with an additional 2.4GHz AP connected to an ethernet port to get 2 SIMs and Dual Band WiFi coverage. A bit expensive but should meet all your requirements...just a bit overkill on the 5GHz side, though :P

LTE you can try recommended 3rd parties or buy direct from Mikrotik:

Unfortunately, I can only see either 2 SIM or 1x SIM w/ 1x WiFi options...besides the 5GHz option I already wrote about.

The LTE link isn't empty, just scroll down further ;) I thought the same at first :-P

You can use M33G with 1 x mPCIe modem and 1x USB modem + Wireless card.

Is there a reason for dual SIM?

The main reason for dual sim is 4g/3g is failover in case of coverage issues of mobile providers. BUT bandwidth muxing can be as well a benefit incase of overload users.

Pepwave Max BR1 already does all of this. While you may be able to cobble Mikrotik stuff together to make something work I think you would find the Max BR1 pretty awesome and rugged for that use case. The Sierra Wireless ES450 is also a great unit for single SIM use.

Thanks for all your replies.
I herd about the Pepwave Max BR1 but i dont have experience with them, and as far as i see they are quite pricey.

Look this: (go to page 31)

But do not expect this product to be available later this year.

I'm still waiting for the WAP LTE KIT, the distributor does not have availability yet and it was announced in 2017.
