New router boards with 16MB flash

Wed Feb 14, 2018 11:25 pm

Hi all,

I have a question regarding new boards with 16MB flash storage. I'm particularly interested in RBM33G. I was wondering if 16MB of flash storage will be enough? All RouterOS packages weights ~9.3 MB, then on top of that you have firewall rules, address lists (they can be quite big if using full bogon lists) and so on. Are some limitations regarding firewall, address lists, etc to be expected on these boards? All things (f. eks. logs), that can be stored on removed media, does not count here.
Also, are there any rumors regarding replacing RB800 and having some really powerful RouterBoard with new HW on it? I'm planning to upgrade my current RB433AH to something new with PCIe slots and powerful CPU.

Hi,
I have read some of them, but mostly there was just complaint that it is too small. Not really info about limitation regarding firewall rules, address lists, etc. My question was if I might face any limitations for that. I'm not talking about installing Metarouter, second partition, backup configs and so on. Just running RouterOS, but expected a lot of rules and especially address lists. I'm quite sure it is not possible to put for example address lists on external media.

RouterOS configuration do not use a lot of space on the disk.
For example 1000 very basic filter rules takes only ~80KB

Thanks for the answer. What about address lists? They can be very big ~50 000 if you use full bogons list. Then, if we add config needed and all packages of RouterOS, then I suppose not much left?
