Any 10GBase-T switches?

Tue Mar 06, 2018 12:40 pm

Hi,

Are there any plans for any 10GBase-T switches with 24 ports and more in the future?

Thanks,
-Patric

If you have any Routerboard devices with an SFP+ port you can add a S+RJ10 and end up with a copper 10Gb port. Not ideal for an entire switch by any means but if you just have a couple devices on 10Gb copper Ethernet it's a decent solution.

Although that is a workaround/solution for now it rounds up to a bit of a hacked together switch. With that said, for myself, I plan on buying a CRS328-24P-4S+RM to solve my POE and 10Gbit needs for now. With it's 4x SFP+ it will allow me to uplink my router (CCR1009) with 10Gbps and then my desktop, server and switch. Nice for now, but as I said a bit hacked together with the copper SFP+ modules.

I'd much rather have something like an
  • 5x10Gbit copper + 2xSFP+
  • 8x10Gbit copper + 2xSFP+

Those would make the perfect home/small business 10Gbit backbone, especially if they used a new chipset which would support 1Gbit, 2.5Gbit, 5Gbit and 10Gbit. I think they would have a killer product with that and many people would buy it!

Are you me? Thats exactly what I have been planning to do since the CRS328 was announced last year duing the european mum. It is/was a long wait...

I do like the 328 because of all the PoE for cameras, phones and other switches. But I have the same issue as you with regards to copper. Its a bit difficult to pull fiber through my house and a S+RJ10 is also not really cheap..
