"loop" detected on bridge with VLAN interface inside

Tue Mar 06, 2018 6:23 pm

Dear all,

I have a setup on different devices with a VLAN Trunk port and access ports that I have created following this example:
https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:I ... p_examples

Everything works fine, but the log is flooded by messages "bridge port received packet with own address as source address, probably loop". This starts when I insert the VLAN interface inside the bridge. Checked lot of options, but I'm unable to resolve this annoying problem. I'm not sure this is a "real" loop. There a no duplicated MAC or the use of "admin MAC" that could lead to duplications.
It happens on several devices where I use the same setup, routers and AP. ROS version 6.41.2.
There are probably other setup to achieve similar result with VLAN but I need the traffic of each VLAN inside his specific bridge where I can easily add interfaces that communicate on that VLAN.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to debug/resolve this issue?

Many thanks in advance for your help, Mauro

Provide output from export hide-sensitive so we can see config for possible issues

Attached is the compact and complete export, thanks for help looking into this!

Note that the trunk port (eth10 in this case), is connected to a switch (it's a powerbox pro as pure bridge) and the switch connects to other devices (AP/PtP) with similar configuration and trunk ports done in the same manner. All of those devices shows the same problem on their respective VLAN bridges.

Thanks, Mauro

Up... anyone has ideas on that? It's on a remote site, so I cannot do all sort of testing risking to cut my access trough the VLAN.

Thanks, Mauro

Hi
it's difficult to assist as I can't see what other devices are connect and where the loop might be coming from.
I've noticed you are talking about adding VLAN to the bridge.
none of your bridges will understand VLAN because you have vlan-filtering=no
please check this article about vlan-filtering in 6.41+
https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:I ... _Filtering

if you really have a loop in VLAN, RSTP will not help you, you will need to configure MSTP

Thanks for the suggestions, let's say that this config was done prior to version 6.41, so I used another approach. The bridge itself doesn't do anything on VLAN filtering, but since the VLAN interface is inside the bridge, everything inside the bridge talks on that VLAN and this was my goal.

Yes, you don't see the entire network (imagine there are copies of this setup and all talks together through the trunk interfaces), but I guess the problem happens inside the single device, when there is traffic on the VLAN interface.

I can try MSTP just to see what happens.

Re: "loop" detected on bridge with VLAN interface inside [SOLVED]  [SOLVED]

After several testing on site, I've discovered it was caused by a Cambium eptp device that connects an external network with a ptp link. Disconnecting the Cambium device, immediately stop the bridge loop message on all Mikrotik devices.

Now, I'm trying to understand what option on the Cambium is causing the problem! It's in pure bridge with a configured managment VLAN ID.

Thanks, Mauro
