CRS328-24P-4S+RM forced POE missing voltage option defaults to 24V, 48V not selectable

Thu May 17, 2018 1:35 am

How can I set a certain POE port voltage on the CRS328-24P-4S+RM in the web interface to forced on with "a specific voltage" in this case 48V for a old Cisco phone, because "auto power" doesn't work and "forced on" feeds 24V instead of the needed 48V. I'm aware this Cisco 7960 device uses different wiring, but I would even like to know for other equipment. SwOS 2.7.

As a comparison the ubnt edgeswitches, even the older rough > Tough models do provide 24/48 options being set manually.

Now this is new. On my Edgeswitches I only have POE+ (802.11af/at) and 24V passive. No 48V passive option. Maybe you mean the defunct ToughSwitch Pro, which only supported passive PoE and no 802.11af/at? That power option was a dedicated solution for airFiber devices and is non-standard.

@docmarius

You might be right about the 48 passive(forced on) for the newer Edgeswitch models. The Tough Switch Carrier I got lost month needed to force the 48 passive POE for a 100Mbit 48V > 5V 802.3af adapter since auto wouldn't power up the POE port, than it started working. However the 8 and 16 port Edgeswitch models I tested almost 2 years ago may indeed be 24passive only I can check that this week but since I'm not a fan of auto features maybe its the 24/48 port ubnt edgeswitch that makes it only 24v passive?

Mikrotik support mentions that they intent to support it in future, so potential buyers be aware of missing passive/force POE voltage selection and watch the next SwOS/RouterOS change log!

CRS328-24P-4S+RM have had voltage set option from almost the beginning of production.

Voltage set option is useful in cases, when PD support high voltage passive power source, but does not support IEEE 802.3at/af.
