I am coming from a Cisco background and am having a few problems with how much different things are in the Mikrottik world.
I have mostly used the Mikrotik for Wireless so I have not delved into many of the switching features.
I currently have 3 bridges setup. Primary network, Guest and automation. My connection to the internet is currently layer3 on Port1.
There are so many different locations to configure VLANs in this product and the different options are making my head spin.
I would assume there is a way with Mikrotik to accomplish something similar to an SVI or VLAN interface that I would with Cisco.
What I would like to do Is temporarily until I get a router board with more switch ports, trunk that port1 over to a Cisco switch and have a VLAN designated as my internet VLAN. I have several routers that I need to have connected to my cable modem parallel for work reasons.
Can someone point me in the right direction of maybe some documentation to help me understand how Mikrotik implements the VLAN interface function and trunking?
My end goal would be to have lets say VLAN 400 be my public internet facing VLAN. I would like the Mikrotik to have a static public IP and for all the other VLANS to use that to NAT out.
I would like to have all the VLANS trunked to the Cisco Switch so I can have 24 ports to put on any VLAN that I want.
Each of the VLANs will also have an associated WLAN.
The main router and the CAPMAN controller is a haP AC and I have 2 haP AC lite.
I am using one of the lite units just as a CAP and the other lite unit I will be trunking all the VLANS too over cat 5 so I can connect some wired devices in the other side of the house. This unit will also be a CAP.
Another question besides guidance not the VLANs. Should there be a separate bridge for the Internet connection?
Also what Mikrotik product would you guys recommend to be my core device in my home environment. I would use it to replace the haP AC as the firewall and Capsman controller. I would need at least 12 Gig ports with at least 5 being POE.
