Routerboard Extended Ethernet >150M

Wed Nov 15, 2006 1:40 am

The routerboard 44 lists support for cable distances of 150M. Does this also apply to the routerboard 532/anything with a Via VT6105 chipset? Does one need a Via chipset on either side to accomplish this or can one side be just a standard switch? Anyone ever tried this?

Thanks

Nik

Would PoE from a 12v DC source be likely to also work over this distance?

No. Use an 18v with some excess current.

about 500ft

Shows with 18.4 v input is required for 12v and you will dissipate .01w per foot. That is about 5w or .3a from a 18v input.

For long hauls I use Canary CFT-2062 100T to 100F converters at both ends of a multi mode fiber line..

Works GREAT, Lasts LONGTIME...
