CRS317 - ROS-6.42.6 - hw-offload on bond 802.3ad not working

Wed Jul 25, 2018 12:02 am

Hi,

I newly bought a CRS317.
Before doing any tests, I upgraded to 6.42.6 (packages and firmware).
Then I follow the chapter "Bonding" of the wiki https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:C ... es#Bonding.
At the last step, when "printing" the details of the configuration, I can't have hardware offload on the bond1 as a bridge port. No problem with non-bond port.

I have several questions :
- is the wiki right ?
- has it worked with an older version ?
- is it a ROS 6.42.6 bug ?

Some more informations :
- I reset the configuration, don't use any "quick set".
- All the sfp cage are empty.
- I'm using the ether1 to use the terminal of winbox 3.16.

Thx for your help !

Hi
We have the same problem!
The wiki: https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:C ... s_switches say "Since RouterOS v6.42 all CRS3xx series switches support hardware offloading with bonding interfaces.".
But offload is not active in bond interface.
CPU load stays in 90% with a traffic of 600Mbps.

Version 6.42.1 and version 6.42.6 have the same problem.

fast-forward enabled or not enabled don't make difference.

Re: CRS317 - ROS-6.42.6 - hw-offload on bond 802.3ad not working  [SOLVED]

Mon Jul 30, 2018 10:11 pm

after several tests, everything is OK.

In fact until a LAG (LACP) isn't linked to another device, the bond interface doesn't show the hardware offload flag in the bridge.
But when the link is up and connected to a device, then the hardware offload flag appears.

I did several tests between CRS317, CRS326 & CRS328, and it works fine on each device.

OK!
How did the system behave with traffic?
I did something similar, the "H" tag appeared on the bond1 interface, but the CPU usage was fixed at 99%.
My problem still persists.

After make contact with Mikrotik team, I remove inter-vlan routing, bgp and other routing configurations and took this to other router. With this, the CRS317 was changed to L2 Switch with Vlan + LACP in only one bridge with hw-offload. So, cpu usage is zero with traffic of 1.25Gbps. Before, with 600Mbps cpu usage reached 99%.

In other words, CRS317 + VLAN + LACP work if not inter-vlan routing present.

This greatly improved performance.
