Best LTE Router (based on your experience)

Mon Aug 13, 2018 2:31 pm

Hi all,

I'm looking for the best (based on your experience) LTE router that can be connected to hAP AC (RB962) to keep a persistent internet connection. I know it is very subjective so I would appreciate a few words to support your claim.

I am looking for answers based on personal experience.

Also, if you recommend another hardware setup (PCIe + router etc.), I'm more than happy to listen to your experience and recommendations.

Thanks a bunch,
Krzysztof

few days ago my customer have very interesting order. He has LTE sim card and have one cisco 2960G. For this setup i used rb912UAG-5HPnD. And then i made on ethernet port vlans/firewall. I prefer make shaping directly on switch. This configuration was cheap and it is still mikrotik

Hi Kurosudo,

am looking something for a small business - 2 people with 5-6 network devices. It should be robust, but on the cheap side.

I bought one and tested it on T-Mobile in the US.

After I added the APN... the unit connected to the T-Mobile Network and worked like any other Mikrotik router. I used the wireless on it and it was a typical 2.4 Ghz radio.

I went back in and set the unit to something like "passthrough". One I did this... the Tik connected and passed the IP from the ISP to my computer like a modem.

So I am looking to try an install with the wAP LTE as a Modem only. Just have not had a chance yet.

I have been using Cradlepoint for years. The Cradlepoints have a LTE Advanced Modem. So if LTE Extreme comes to the city... the cradlepoint can get a faster connection.
On the wAP LTE... it has 3G and 4G. So its MORE LIKELY to connect when moved around like on "the taco truck".

Thanks for update gotsprings!!!
I was looking something modem/router 4g/lte based on mikrotik (2in1) for remote client to get connected to internet without dedicated 4g/lte modem + extra tik router.
So i am guessing i will need to try same setup like you have and see how it goes. Hope it will work.

Connect ether1 to a switch.
Connect you computer to that switch.
You get a 192.168.88.0/24 address and a fully functional router.
Procure the right sized Sim and activate it.
Go into the LTE interface, and add the ISP/carrier APN...
Then I was connected.

If the wAP LTE were 10/100/1000 and had one of the newer processors... I could see this... with a managed switch to be a router with a wired ISP as the primary. Then rolling over to cellular when needed.
