Multiple IP address on same interface

Thu May 03, 2007 12:35 am

I tried to assign a static ip address in the same network that issues my dynamic ip addresses. The dynamic that my host mikrotik issues is xxx.xx.xx.186. I assigned xxx.xx.xx.10 but I cant ping the .10 address when it is added. Nor can I route any traffic to it. This is on a wlan interface. Do I need to take the dhcp client off of that interface in order to assign a static to it?
Please help

You can do this just fine, what you need to do is assign a gateway address to the interface that would match the ip address range that you're using for your dhcp server.

For instance:

DHCP Pool: 10.10.10.2-10.10.10.254
Gateway set to interface the dhcp server is running on: 10.10.10.1

This is what I use and it works just fine.
