I'm trying to find a good value USB-Ethernet adapter that I can connect to the microUSB port on the MikroTik map 2n access points. I've bought a few, with the following chipsets. Although they all appear in /system resource print, none of them show anything in /port print, or create any additional interface. Am I doing something wrong?

ProSignal PSG90932 - AX88179
Gigabit USB3.0 - AX88179
ProSignal PSG90931 - AX88178A
ProSignal PSG90987 - AX88179

I know the manual says that AX88178 doesn't work, but the 179 versions should right?

I do have AX88179 based dongle, and I confirm it does not work, however it's detected correctly in RB951G, nothing shows up in interfaces list:

I have two adapters that do work (note: tested on x86 ROS, drivers on other platforms may vary): The moschip one is Hama 00049244-V2 Hama USB-2.0, I bought years ago in a store and it wasn't cheap (30 euro?). You can still find it but it's expensive: Second one is very cheap usb to lan adapter from aliexpress or ebay. This type was everywhere about a year ago, but now, I can't find it anywhere: One led is red other is yellow. The MAC is clearly suspicious, it's probably clone of AX8817X chip that somehow works better than the others.
It's possible newer ones have same chip, but you never know with these cheap items, you buy them and they vanish next day.

For Serial/MAC, 772B chips store this data in external EEPROM, which can be reprogrammed to whatever values, Chinese manufacturers perhaps just implement local serials.

Also note that the physical appearance and even the manufacturer+type does not tell that the chip remains the same.
It is quite customary to switch between chips on different production runs of devices like that.

yes, you never know what you are going to get. Same case might contain various types of PCB or even same design with various "compatible" chips. When you find a good working one, it's probably wise to just quickly buy 5 or 10 (or as many as you may need in the future) from exactly same seller. There is still chance you get completely different ones, but it's still better than picking them at random...
I also remember some had Realtek chips and were also well supported, but I had no chance to test that specific one on ROS. But it worked well on windows 7 PC.

Ok, finally got the ETH adapter, I have ordered 772B chipset, and got RTL8152B. Refund already processing. Now I got laying RTL8152B and AX88179 adapters, which are not compatible to mikrotik. Wonder how many more I will need to buy before mikrotik team will include a driver to popular interfaces rather than pushing us to find appropriate interface...

MikroTik have enough small and cheap APs that you can use without such an external USB ethernet adapter.
E.g. when you want a mAP 2n with one more ethernet port, take a look at the hAP lite.

Mikrotik will hopefully add support for plethora of peripherials in ROS v7 ... and I'm genuinely looking forward to see it in not-so-distant future.

This is not an option, I do have 3x 951`s, 2011 and recently bought ac^2. Ac^2 have only 5 ports, all of them are occupied, and I occasionally need to switch one more device (100Mbit), which is now done by switching my old Linksys with DDWRT, however, it's not an option since it's an only 100Mbit device, so I am betraying 1Gbps link to switch that external device. Buying another mikrotik router for this purpose is nonsense. Btw, DDWRT has great support for both those USB-ETH adapters.

I have an update for this old thread... Noticed on ROS 7.5 that my AX88179A chip-based USB3 to ethernet adapter is recognized, but as an LTE device. Interestingly, it seems to fully work! It shows up dynamically in /IP/DHCP Client and gets an IP. The brand is "CableCreation", USB 3.0 to 10/100/1000 Gigabit Wired LAN Network Adapter. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013G4C8RE

My question to anyone at MikroTik is whether there a way to fix this so it shows up as an ethernet port?
