hAP ac lite TC Wifi 5Ghz can't syncrhonize to 300Mbps

Sun Aug 18, 2019 7:55 pm

Hi guys, I bought this hap lite
https://mikrotik.com/product/RB952Ui-5ac2nD-TC.

I have a ultrabook Asus UX303LB
https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ASUS-ZenBo ... fications/

The wireless adapter of this laptop is "Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-N 7265"
https://ark.intel.com/content/www/es/es ... -7265.html

This adapter has the below specifications:
Max speed 300 Mbps
Certified for Wi-Fi 802,11agn

What's the problem?
Well, the mikrotik has the default configuration. With my laptop in the wlan1 (2.4ghz) I got 300Mbps, but in wlan2 (5Ghz) I got 150Mbps. I think wlan2 with my laptop should get 300Mbps.

Also I have a router of Telecentro that has two wifi (2.4ghz and 5ghz). When I connect my laptop to 5ghz wifi I get 300mbps.

It's the info of my mikrotik:
Model: RB952Ui-5ac2nD
Firmware type: qca9531L
Current firmware: 6.45.3 (yesterday I did update the firmware)

So, how can I do for the laptop and mikrotik with 5Ghz, both get 300Mbps?

Regards

Hm. The 7265 card is two-chain on both frequencies, but while the RB is two-chain on 2.4, only single-chain on 5.0.
So sounds like you're stuck on a single-width channel right now, but should be able to bump up to double-width to get around 300. (Or quad-width for 433 but that's harder.)

Please post results of the following two commands?
/interface wireless monitor [find] once
/interface wireless export hide-sensitive
(make sure to take a close look at the output and obfuscate things like your mac-address or personal domain name unless you're okay with these being public)

Also just to be sure, because your quote looks otherwise - you upgraded RouterOS only but not the firmware, or did you run firmware upgrade and did not refresh the info you posted at bottom of your post?

Re: hAP ac lite TC Wifi 5Ghz can't syncrhonize to 300Mbps  [SOLVED]

Sun Aug 18, 2019 11:03 pm

Oh. Hm. Well, I have a bit of bad news.

TL;DR:
Your Intel card can do "1x150" or "2x150" on 2.4 GHz or on 5GHz all the same.
Your Mikrotik on 2.4GHz can do "1x150", "2x150".
Your Mikrotik on 5GHz can do "1x150", "1x300", "1x433".
The best option supported by both on 2.4 GHz is "2x150" = 300.
The best option supported by both on 5 GHz is "1x150".
Sorry :(

2442/20-eC/gn means 2.4 GHz is running at 40 MHz mode (eC = Extension channel followed by Control channel).
5180/20-Ceee/ac means 5 GHz is running at 80 MHz mode (Ceee = Control channel, three Extension channels).

Intel is having the most confusing naming method ever.
There is "Wireless-N 7265"
https://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/p ... -brief.pdf
and "Wireless-AC 7265".
https://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/p ... -brief.pdf

I Googled up the AC's specs previously by mistake.
The first row in the table announces "Dual Band, 80 MHz, 2x2" and then "Delivers up to 3x faster Wi-Fi speeds (up to 867 Mbps)" at start of the small font text.
But you have the older N, and this is is "Dual Band 2x2" but basic 20MHz only. Thus "Up to 300 Mbps".

2x2 is what Mikrotik calls "dual chain" and others tend to call "dual stream", it can open two independent 20MHz connections, to get 2x150 = 300 Mbps.
Your hAP ac lite has dual-chain 2.4 GHz radio, but only single-chain 5GHz radio as you can see in specs list and in this diagram.
https://i.mt.lv/cdn/rb_files/hAP_ac_lit ... 130154.png

If your Intel 7265 would be the AC variant, it would be supporting:
"1x150", "2x150" on 2.4 GHz.
"1x150", "1x300", "1x433", "2x150", "2x300", "2x433" on 5Ghz
So with the hAP ac lite you'd get 2x150" on 2.4 GHz, and "1x433" on 5GHz.

Ok, thanks so much!!
Well, for me that isn't a bad notice, It's means that is fine (there isn't bug or problem with devices).

If I want to get 300mbps or higher, I maybe need to use an adapter 5ghz usb BUT with single band NOT dual band.

Is that correct?

No, you don't need specifically single-stream/single-chain adapter. Just adapter capable of using 80MHz channels (so 802.11ac). 160MHz would be even more future-proof.
If you will buy a 4-stream monster powerful adapter with AC speeds, (advertising "up to 1500 Mbps" on the box for exampe) it will use just one stream with the Mikrotik at 433Mbps.
But you can connect the same adapter to some multi-chain access point in the future (RB4011 wifi version, for example), and have all 4 streams running for the much higher speed.

Thanks so very much. I haven't any question about this.

I will close this topic.
