Establish VPN connection with minimum interference on the host.

Tue Sep 24, 2019 2:13 pm

Greetings everyone!

Please advise whether there is a way to connect a mikrotik router via Ethernet on a VDSL modem and without knowing the local address range to allow a vpn connection that has been preconfigured on that host mikrotik router.

For streaming content, I would like to send to a friend of mine in location A (while I will be in location B) a pre-configured router and after him connecting it on his router, for me to be able to connect from my location. The reason is that my friend is very bad with computers and am afraid that port forwarding on his router through him is next to impossible. I would be able perhaps to ask him (based on some instructions) to check his phone’s ip address and that would give me an idea of the LAN range but even that will take us a long time 😊 .

The idea if possible, is to simply connect the two devices by Ethernet and for me without him doing anything else to be able to establish a vpn connection. I would think that the mikrotik router would have to be on DHCP client mode to receive e.g. (all ports on bridge) 192.168.10.1/24 but I wouldn’t even know that (it could receive any other IP). But then what? Is something like that possible?

Thank you in advance
