RB912/EC25 issues

Mon Oct 14, 2019 4:09 am

Hi All,

Recently picked up an RB912 and an EC25 for LTE backup WAN link.

I've run into an issue getting ROS to recognise the EC25, it shows up under resources as an "Android" device (does the same under windows, but Alpine Linux recognises it correctly) and does not expose any serial interfaces.

According to https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Cellular ... _modems_01 it ought to be showing up with a vendor of "Quectel, Incorporated"

No interface was created for the device;

I assumed it was some whacky config in the EC25 (purchased used) so while it was in the machine running Alpine I gave it an AT&F which according to the manual ought to reset it to factory, unfortunately that doesn't seem to have changed the behaviour.

The RB912 is running ROS 6.45.6 if it matters.

Anybody able to provide some direction on this?

Thanks,

Check this article as HowTo
Quectel EP06-E and wAP R ac (RBwAPGR-5HacD2HnD) = viewtopic.php?t=150368
and remember that USB2.0 port must have marked a pins on usb 3.0 modems - I don't know if your is usb 2 or 3.

I was using the same gear (in a box in the shed at the moment) - the EC25-AU I had showed up as "Android" with RouterOS and Windows 10, but still worked with the RB912 (was getting around 15Mbps down via Telstra with B1).

If it is showing up in the USB list, it should be fine to go - just ignore the "Android' bit. Make sure DirectIP is off, the port set to mPCIe, and set up a PPP interface.

The EC25 series use USB 2.0 so you don't need to tape any pins.

@SiB yeah, a friend elsewhere directed me to that.

It gave me the magic to at least get it working in PPP mode, "/port firmware set ignore-directip-modem=yes" was the key.

Whilst according to the wiki this OUGHT to work in LTE mode it doesn't seem to play nice, I might have another poke at it later but considering this is a backup WAN link at home and I'm seeing 15/15 I'm not too fussed.

As noted above this is an EC25 so it only speaks USB2.0 so no pin taping is required.
