Mesh for security cameras

Fri Nov 01, 2019 2:42 pm

Hello guys.
I'm going to implement a project using mikrotik.

In theory, I want to create a mesh network to receive several streams from ad-hoc security cameras from a central point.
The ad-hoc camera should be connected directly to a microtic AP via LAN, the different APs at different locations should find their routes among each other and find the best possible way to a central point where a computer can receive all streams.

For me, mesh and routing are new territory at the moment, so I am confused about terms like "Wireless WDS Mesh" "MME" and "HWMPplus".
What would make the most sense for this application?

Greetings from Germany
Daniel

I would not use MESH...!
MESH works by repeating the signal and you have significant loss of Bandwidth...

Also for a new user, setting up a MESH network is not that easy...

That's my personal opinion... :D

Thanks for your opinion, what is in your opinion the best choose other than Mesh?

The problem is that the APs can not be cabled and are, as said, for fast ad-hoc build up (outdoor).

Just a thought....
The camera's needed to be powered... why not use the PWR-Line devices and make use of the power cables to transport the video's?

Because the cams are outdoor with different power grids.

PTMP is good, this is what i currently use and with a relais station to the central point. But I was curious about using mesh as an backup if one antenna stop working.

But have the two or three-band APs have that 50% bandwidth loss per hop too? And is it not a good idea to use mesh for a few near by cameras where not every camera can see the central point?
