Compare United States wireless country settings

Thu Jan 02, 2020 6:04 am

What is the difference between United States, United States (public safety), United Statesrbd23, United States2, United States3?

I have looked high and low and cant seem to find any good documentation on the differences between these Country option.
I'm not looking for with one is the correct choice. I'm looking for the raw data and the differences between each one.

I'm not sure if there are other differences, but the visible are in channel list (with EIRP limits) ... the ones displayed running

/interface wireless info country-info country=<country name>

So you might want to print settings for all "countries" and compare them.

But I agree, variants for same country should be documented ... how's a normal user from US supposed to know which one is the right one to use in his county (one wants to evade a visit from friendly local law enforcement agents, doesn't he?) ...

Thanks that's the command I needed to get the raw data.

It appears the country: united states3 is the most current revision of the FCC standards and is the best performing for most users.

So I'm confused - what's new? Is the 30dBm EIRP? Or transmit power? Because the rules state
"Several of the FCC part 15 rules govern the transmit power permitted in the ISM bands. Here is a summary of those rules:

Maximum transmitter output power, fed into the antenna, is 30 dBm (1 watt).

Maximum Effective Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) is 36 dBm (4 watt).
You can obtain the EIRP by simply adding the transmit output power, in dBm, to the antenna gain in dBi (if there is loss in the cable feeding the antenna you may subtract that loss).

If your equipment is used in a fixed point-to-point link, there are two exceptions to the maximum EIRP rule above:

In the 5.8 GHz band the rule is less restrictive. The maximum EIRP allowed is 53 dBm (30 dBm plus 23 dBi of antenna gain).
In the 2.4 GHz band you can increase the antenna gain to get an EIRP above 36 dBm but for every 3dBi increase of antenna gain you must reduce the transmit power by 1 dBm. The table below shows the combinations of allowed transmit power / antenna gain and the resulting EIRP.

Transmit Power
(dBm)
Antenna Gain
(dBi)
EIRP
(dBm)
30 6 36
29 9 38
28 12 40
27 15 42
26 18 44
25 21 46
24 24 48
23 27 50
22 30 52"

So PTP allows 53 dBm EIRP (200 watts), while PTMP allows 36dBm EIRP (4 watts). Am I reading this wrong?

Looks like no limit on antenna gain on PTP 5725-5850

I had this same issue and after reading, realized that i had set my ap to specifically 'indoor' to use 5785 or any frequency within the UNI-3 band, had to change it to 'outdoor' or 'any' and then it works fine.
