"Roaming" device port

Wed Jan 22, 2020 11:32 am

We have a need to logically move a single workstation, physically directly connected to a specific port on our core router (RB3011), between 4 different networks being 192.168.[1-4].0/24 addresses.
Each of the 4 different Class C address ranges are represented by 4 different ports on the RB3011.
The reason for this requirement is that we use an NVR/IPC tool to discover, configure and manage devices connected to each of the subnets.
Currently we have to physically plug the workstation into the required subnet to work.

Since we need to do the work remotely most of the time we envisage the following setup:
a) Use Winbox to access RB3011 and select/change the VLAN/bridge/other configuration to the required 192.168.x.0 network
b) Use TeamViewer to access the on-site workstation.
c) Use the windows based utility from the workstation to scan the physical devices on the specific subnet, then make the config changes required.

I have looked at VLAN's and bridges as possible solutions but before trying anything on the live network would like some advice.
a) Which of the options are best for a simple requirement like this?
b) Any specific details to make the configuration work?

Thanks

André

VLANs should be used..
But if you ve never used VLANs before it would be a little risky to do that remotely...

Thanks for the feedback. I can go onsite to make the changes but some examples before I go would be of value.
Planned physical config on RB3011 is as follows:
SFP Disabled
Port 1 WAN/Internet
Port 2 Disabled
Port 3 Disabled
Port 4 Disabled
Port 5 Windows workstation
Port 6 192.168.1.0/24 connected to 3x EdgeCore ECS2100-28P switches
Port 7 192.168.2.0/24 connected to 1x EdgeCore ECS2100-28P switch
Port 8 192.168.3.0/24 connected to 1x EdgeCore ECS2100-28P switch
Port 9 192.168.4.0/24 connected to 1x EdgeCore ECS2100-28P switch
Port 10 Disabled

Requirement is to selectively join port 5 to one of the 192.168.x.0/24 subnets

Any example on the configuration much appreciated.
