Huawei E3372 LTE modem

Thu Jul 30, 2015 12:56 pm

Dear All,

I just want to share few words about the above mentioned Huawei modem. Precisely E3372-153...
I have tested it with ROS ver. 5.20 so it should work with every higher version.

If we put away the fact that this modem is a little bit bad with signal strength (unless You use external antennas. I am using some GSM external antennas, bought online), I can say that it works good under not so good enviroment conditions (something like HOT inside :) ). Tested for 72 hours only and there were not any drops like disconnecting in that time. I will post more after a month.

To use this modem with mikrotik, I suggest to configure basics via PC before attaching to the router and after attaching, it will be necessary to set data channel to value 1. It will not work right after this so it will be necessary to replug it to the router. After this it works fine... After reboot it will also automatically connect.

No problem, I will post this later. However, this one doesn't work as a LTE interface at the moment. I think there is one option in modem settings which could posibly change this and it could act as a LTE interface. I will check this too. Also, the variant is E3372-153. 153 is one of the variants...

Anyway, I could achieve over 120 Mbps where signal is good.

Best Regards!

***EDIT UPDATE***

Here are the details You asked for:

device="2:6" vendor="HUAWEI_MOBILE" name="HUAWEI_MOBILE" vendor-id="0x12d1"
device-id="0x1506" speed="480 Mbps" ports=0 usb-version="2.10"

I also have a E3372 (Vendor ID 0x12d1)(Device ID 0x157d) and it also does not work as LTE interface
would be very interested in getting it to work.

In my opinion it doesn't mater will it work as LTE interface or as PPP interface. Here what I described is PPP interface and it works fine. ;)

Best Regards!

What router do you have?
i have RB2011uas-2hnd-in and getting PPP to work is also quite the feat and it hasnt been successful for me so far.
Edit:
also getting the modem to be discoverable by the router required a hub between the two

I have x86 router with dual core celeron 1037 and 6 gigabit ports but this doesn't mater. try to follow the simple procedure I described in the first post to make it work. If You don't make it, I am willing to help via teamviewer. Please note that I have tried this with 5.20 version... i don't know if it will work with lower version but I am lmost certain that with higher version will be no problems.

Best Regards!

I have an E3372h-153 (T-mobile Hungary) modem ndis-ppp firmware, which did not work at first because of the need of usb modeswitch.
I could fix the problem using the AT^SETPORT command.

The original mode was:
AT^SETPORT="A1,A2;12,1,16,A1,A2"

I set the modem to:
AT^SETPORT="FF;12,1,16"

usb power reset, and it started working as a PPP interface.

------
I found theese settings using AT^SETPORT, and AT^GETPORTNAME:
AT^SETPORT="initial_mode;normal_mode"

map:
1 - Mobile Data Modem (MDM)
5 - GPS interface
6 - control interface
12 - PC UI
10 - modem?
16 - NDIS
A1 - Virtual cd
A2 - TF card reader
FF - Dummy (disable modeswitch when using this as the initial mode?)

For use Huawei s3372h with Stick type of firmware

use AT^SETPORT="FF;10,12,16"
data port = 0
info port = 1

But for use same modem with PC you can set:
AT^SETPORT="A1,A2;10,12,16,A1,A2"
maybe nessesary to check "Ignore direct IP modem" in System Ports
