Cannot connect to Virtual AP

Tue Jul 03, 2007 4:40 pm

Hi,

I have two problems with VAP (Atheros AR5211 configured as Ap Bridge 2.4GHz)
First - Regardless of how many virtual AP I add (all with different SSIDs and MACs of course) I can discover only two wireless networks on my client (Windows XP). One wireless interface and first virtual AP. Even apps like Network Stumbler can't discover all VAPs
Second - with those two network discovered I can connect to wierelss interface only. There's no way to force my client to connect to VAP - every time it says "Network unreachable".
Tried both default authenticte and Access List with no luck.

Post the MACs you're using, it might help diagnose the problem. I have had 6 VAPs working fine on AtherOS chipset via WindowsXP and NetStumbler can see them all.

Configuration I Use:

WLAN1 - 00:05:4E:42:54:EA SSID: TEST1 def auth: disabled
VAP1 - 00:05:4E:42:54:EB SSID: VIRTUALTEST2 def auth: disabled
VAP2 - 00:05:4E:42:54:EC SSID: VIRTUALTEST3 def auth: disabled
VAP3 - 00:05:4E:42:54:ED SSID: VIRTUALTEST4 def auth: enabled

I can see WLAN1 and VPA1 but can connect to WLAN1 only, if I delete VAP1 I discover WLAN1 and VPA2 and so on...

Seems it was OS problem, I upgraded to 2.9.42 and now it's partially OK.
It means I see all VAP and I can connect to any as long as my MAC is on Access List.
But it doesn't work with default authentication enabled without using Access List.
I need it to have one limited open network and the other for registered clients.

Post your wireless interface configuration and information from the logs, when client is unable to connect without entry on 'access-list'.
