Winbox Locking up, failing

Mon Feb 07, 2005 5:27 pm

I have a MT router. When I try to access it using Winbox, the winbox seems to connect correctly to the router, and then attempts to secure the connection on port 3987. However, it never goes past this securing message, and then eventually says "Router has been disconnected!" (yes we have the security package)

Now, what doesn't make sense is why it is locking up. Running 2.7.2, have intended to upgrade, but until this point have not had ability to or available downtime to do it. I have already deleted the data in c:\docs and settings\<user>\application data\Microtik\winbox to try to get winbox to redownload the software, which it did, but had no effect

Any suggestions to get this running for now? As I said, I plan to upgrade, but need this to run now so I can continue to administer it.

well the only solution is to use command line interface over SSH. upgrade will solve your problem

please check your firewall, maybe there is some rule that does this!

well, luckily i have the KVM for the box it is on hooked up. That has been my primary method of getting in recently. I dont think it is a firewall rule, as I havent changed anything recently. I will let you know if I find anything else.

Thanks for the input however.

could this be causing it?

Was wondering if this could be causing it... I haven't been into this directory at all, if ever, so I dont know how this would have changed. Thanks for the help?

Winbox crashing

Wed Feb 16, 2005 4:49 am

Erik. I've notcied this and other issues with WinBox. However, I must qualify this statement by stating that when I moved WinBox to another laptop, the problem did not occur. I'm sure if I (you) were to go thru msconfig and shut down items one by one, we would find the culprit ?

You're not using a Toshiba laptop are you ?

Best regards.

bodhiguy,

No, actually I cannot get winbox to work anywhere within my network (inside the MT) I have tried it from my laptop, my servers, my admin destop, just about everywhere. It's actually quite annoying, but I am definetly getting better at using the command line interface... :-)

Laptop is a Dell, but I dont think that is the culprit. I am still trying to schedule a downtime for the router to see if that fixes it...

More later if I find a fix.

Erik
