Sierra Wireless EM7565

Sat Jun 23, 2018 8:59 am

I just thought I'd create a thread specifically for getting the EM7565 to work with Mikrotik routers.
The mikrotik I'm using is a RB953.

First thing I started with was a windows machine. I'm also using a USB to M2 USB adapter board.
Downloaded windows drivers for the EM7565 and installed.
Downloaded the firmware (Generic SWI9X50C_01.07.00.00) which is generic since there is not a specific one for Telstra yet.
Plugged in the USB adapter board and tried to install the firmware. First attempt failed but pushed it again and appeared to work.

Opened up a terminal emulator session to port 8, ports 9 and 10 appear to be the GPS (NEMA) port and something I couldn't figure out (DM) port.
Port 8 appeared to be the standard AT command port.

LTE all seems like a good fit so I'll start with that.

Now we are at least seeing the device online.

Well I've been having a bit of fun, I can't even get the EM7565 to connect to the 4/3G network on it own, in a computer.
The USB carrier boards don't seem to be working and I havent got a machine with M.2 USB connectors on it. I haven't tried taping the USB 3 pins yet but will soon ( I'm sure that will be fun on the tiny pins).

Well I was considering getting the defib out at one stage. I bricked the EM7565 after requesting a factory reset via AT!RMARESET=2. Then it would only come up with the QDLoader port and nothing else. But you can unzip the firmware exe file you get from Sierra Wireless, run the exe that is buried in there and then plug the modem in. It took a few goes loading the firmware in until it was happy but I did get it back to life.

Now it's working in my Speedbox albeit quite slowly, looks like its stuck on 3G or one of the slower 4G bands, but it is working. I'll try get it working straight out of a RB soon enough.

Well I had a bit of a shot on the RB looks like I might need to tape those USB3 pins...... what fun that looks like.

Had a go at taping the pins. got them taped but still can't get any ports shown in System>Ports.
So I raised a Ticket#2018071222000444 we will see how we go.

I did get it to work on a PC, but looks like it's not running carrier aggregation only getting 40Mb/s each way. Strange part was I didn't seem to do anything obvious to get it working. Only un and reinstalled the netgear watcher software.
I used this command to get the unit connecting to Telstra's bands and not searching the myriad of other bands.
AT!BAND=03,"Aust Telstra",0000000004400000,000000000800C5,0000000000000000,0000000000000000,0000000000000000,0000000000000000
It's now also working in the Linux machine with the same issues. The mikrotik still has no ports showing for the device.

MIkrotik wern't too interested in making it work until ROS7.
Fair enough I suppose, with the lack of throughput compared to the MC7430 I think I'll get another of those until the firmware is sorted for the EM7565

I was able to get the EM7511 to register in MBIM mode on a LtAP running the v7.1B1 today. Status information is mostly missing, but it connects and passes traffic.

Hi,

Can you detail the process you used to get the EM7511 to work please?
How do you switch the EM to MBIM mode? Within the Router OS or externally?
Can you detail a bit the procedure to do so please?

Kind regards

ROS 7v1 will load the drives to connect to the EM7511 in MBIM mode by default. Under Interfaces/LTE/Modem just make sure it's set to 'Auto'.

If it does not work, you may need to enable the MBIM channel on your EM7511. I've found this resource helpful: https://github.com/danielewood/sierra-w ... /README.md
